New York trail rides??

there are always runs going on the best thing to do is either hang around in here and try to hook up with a group and see where they wheel. There is also a couple Jeep Jamborees upstate 1 in the Catskils and 1 in the Adorandacks (not sure of the dates). Or if you want to drive like 4 hours you can come to Naples and go wheelin with me!

starting in May we do alot of wheeling in the corner of Ma/NY/Vt area.. about an hour from you in Capital land.. keep an eye on this forum.. most roads in that area are closed until May 1st becuase of mud season..

That would be perfect so it gives me enough time to start bullet proofing my rig!! Armor, skids, recovery and all, KEEP ME POSTED!!!!!!!!!

Can you also let me know what requirements you need on your rig to run the trails, and if it costs anything or have to be a member & stuff. I gotta be prepared ya know!!

Starting around may 5th a lot of the trails that a bunch of us from syracuse ride on will be open. I'll be posting more once the snow starts to melt. We've pretty much gathered a bunch of folks from all over NY last fall for a wheelin trip and had a blast. Keep an eye in this section for those posts some time in may. These trails are about 2 hours from Albany,..... a little north of utica in the dacks.

The trails that I am referring to are NYS 4x4 trails, there rocky, muddy, and in some places you get nice pin stripping from the trees. Most of the folks we wheel with all have recovery points, most have winches. We can get stockers down these trails with a little effort, depending on the owner as well. Some times we have difficulty in some places, with clearance on stockers, but usually with a little tug there out. Search "Nobleboro" and read the threads from last fall, I try to get as many people as I can to wheel on the weekends from May to November. We're only about two months away before the trails open, so I'll be posting more soon.

there's no cost, a BYO type deal, We usually get about 7-8 trucks to join us, but that # keeps growing, there's free camp sites, first come first serve, and miles of trails to check out. lots of fun for the family too, since the camp sites are right along west canada creek, some of the best fishing around.....

You have to be able to 'bench' 510 lbs. and 'squat' a Buick LaCrosse.
Call BALCO and get busy.
:laugh2:

Im from East Greenbush, NY its about 5 mins from albany. We also have a huge post and beam barn in bern and some property. Its in the sticks about 45 mins southwest of albany. Ive actually been 4 wheeling on the boarder of mass with some buddys. You start at the bottom of this logger trail in NY and when you get halfway up your in mass. The trail is sick you need 33's and frt and rear lockers at least and your still going to get pulled out a couple of times.

Sh!# BIG-G your from Albany too Sweet two albanians.........You said your building your rig this spring??? What are your plans???

NAXJA's safety rules are posted in various places. Basically, front and rear tow points, fire extinguisher; safety belts fro driver and all passengers; snatch strap (without metal hooks -- NOT a "tow" strap or rope); adequate spare tire; first aid kit; battery must be securely fastened down in the vehicle.

I think that's about it, but I may have forgotten something. CB radios are strongly advised but not required. Personally, I think they should be required. If you have an FRS/GMRS radio you can bring it for chatting in camp, but we don't use them on the trails.

You should also bring some tools and spare fluids, etc, plus any spare parts you might think you'll need. All tools and gear should be carried in a way that allows it to be secured -- we have had vehicles roll over, and udually not where or when you'd expect it. Also not required, but it's a good idea to carry a few heavy-duty trash bags for catching fluids if you have to work on an axle in the woods. We should try to prevent pollution as much as possible, and certainly not contribute to it.

This is my first post here.. I just bought my first XJ.. it's an 88 w/ 6 1/2" and 33s... I am in Dutchess County NY, about 1 hr north of NYC and 1 1/2 hrs south of Albany. I am gonna be wheeling with 2 other guys near me. So any info in this area would be appreciated.

Hi, welcome to NAXJA, whereabouts in Dutchess Co, aer you. I'm in Pawling. there are a couple of people that have posted rides upstate for later ths spring, there's always something up around the NY/Ma/VT border, after the "mud" season is over . keep an eye out here.;-)

I am in Hopewell Jct. I am right near Rte 55 so pawling is only about 10-15 mins from me.

I know of a few trail rides locally going on soon if you are interested. I also heard about a group in Ct/ NY that does trail riding on some private property. Trying to find out more info on that..

sent you a pm, I'm sure you know this but most of NY and CT is posted, and there isnt much "public" legal wheeling around. if you have permission for some private land, great. locally to us (withing 15-20 minutes) there isnt anything legal that I have been able to verify 100%..
