New Wagoneer in sight...some questions.

Back in the early days, several wagon style cars and trucks had actual wood siding and they were referred to as "woodys".

I was only questioning the year since you had AMC keys. I guess it would be safe to assume that the lock could have been changed to a 84-87 model XJ. AMC built the XJ till 87 then chrysler took over in 88.

huh, that's new info to me!! I always thought things changed about two years after that-- I know my '88 had AMC locks/ keys and I am kinda thinking my old parts Jeep had them also-- it was an '89, but I'm not quite as sure about that one.

sorry about the Hijack-- I'll shut up now.......

goes to show you though thatthey dont have as much fun as us in the rocks, mud, dirt, and snow!!! lol

but seriously, if im in spain, im coming over to look at that thing in person....im drooling lol

Actually, they used the AMC keys at least through 89. Mine has had the "square" keys with the original lockset since it was purchased in October of that year...even though everything else on the vehicle has the dodge "pentastar" on it.

The Wagoneer is a sweet rig though. Nice find.

Great looking rig you bought.I have the same year Wagon but it is not in that good shape and mine has the 35 not the 44 rear axle I wish it did.

I have been looking my axles and was very surprised when cleaned the gear ratio tag on the D30:

I never seen a 4.0 with 4.10 GR............tow package?????

And no tag in the D44...I´m not worried they have to be the same ( I have used the 4wd already ;) )

And no O2 sensor on the header........only a tube conneced to the intake manifold...hows that? For what?........now Im thinking that the thing before the muffler could be a resonator instead a cat....what do you think about?

And another doubt....I have seen something like a tube coming from the header to the entry of he airbox...........I can´t understand for what is that. Ant idea??

TIA

The tube from the exhaust manifold to the airbox allows warm air at startup so the engine runs correctly and efficiently. As it warms up, the damper is closed allowing cooler air from the front.

The metal tube looks like the EGR system and the cap below it looks like an o2 bung that is plugged.

That certainly looks like 4.10 gearing...what RPM range does the engine turn at different speeds? What size tires are on it?

Hi John, thanks for the explanation.

About the RPM range I have to check that.....I think that the tranny shift around 3000 1 to 2 and maybe 3........then around 3500 to 4........but Im not too sure.
tires are 235/75/15.

TIA

canyou take a head on shot of the front diff?

looks like there was a tag on the rear axle but it was broken off to some extent.

but another congrats on an awesome woody waggon!!!

Here's mine

Usually the rear tag looks like that and it will only have 2 numbers, either "3.5" or in this case it should say "4.1". Beautiful Wagoneer by the way, I like it!

I just looked at a few more pics. Are you positive that is a 88

I was under the impression that AMC only made the Cherokee till 1987. That would also fit in with it having a Dana 44 rear end. There is no way to get a build sheet from that year but if you do a car fax vehicle history report I am betting you will find that it is an 87.

Great Find

My 88 Cherokee (built in June, 88) has AMC logos on the keys, doorjamb sticker, engine bay vacuum routing sticker, glovebox, heater hoses, and the original brake rotors were stamped AMC.

D44's have been reported all the way up to 89.

I believe 1990 was the first real attempt at removing the AMC logos. Then obviously 91 they were all gone.

Rodrigo, NICE waggy.
