New twist, old scam

I recieved this in the email this morning, and thought I'd pass it on.

The following is what I recieved as an email. The TO line stated "undisclosed-recipients"
HOW ARE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?. HOPE ALL IS WELL.

MY NAME IS ( SGT 1ST CLASS MIKE PETERS, I AM AN AMERICAN SOLDIER, SERVING IN THE MILITARY WITH THE ARMY’S 3RD INFANTRY DIVISION. WITH A VERY DESPERATE NEED FOR ASSISTANCE, I HAVE SUMMED UP COURAGE TO CONTACT YOU. I FOUND YOUR CONTACT PARTICULARS IN AN ADDRESS JOURNAL.

I AM SEEKING YOUR KIND ASSISTANCE TO MOVE THE SUM OF ( $28 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS ) TWENTY EIGHT MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS TO YOU, AS FAR AS I CAN BE ASSURED THAT MY SHARE WILL BE SAFE IN YOUR CARE UNTIL I COMPLETE MY SERVICE HERE. SOURCE OF MONEY: SOME MONEY IN VARIOUS CURRENCIES WAS DISCOVERED IN BARRELS AT A FARM HOUSE NEAR ONE OF SADDAM’S OLD PALACES IN TIKRIT-IRAQ DURING A RESCUE OPERATION, AND IT WAS AGREED BY STAFF SGT KENNETH BUFF AND I THAT SOME PART OF THIS MONEY BE SHARED AMONG BOTH OF US BEFORE INFORMING ANYBODY ABOUT IT SINCE BOTH OF US SAW THE MONEY FIRST. THIS WAS QUITE AN ILLEGAL THING TO DO, BUT I TELL YOU WHAT? NO COMPENSATION CAN MAKE UP FOR THE RISK WE HAVE TAKEN WITH OUR LIVES IN THIS HELL HOLE. OF WHICH MY BROTHER IN-LAW WAS KILLED BY A ROAD SIDE BOMB LAST TIME. THE ABOVE FIGURE WAS GIVEN TO ME AS MY SHARE, AND TO CONCEAL THIS KIND OF MONEY BECAME A PROBLEM FOR ME, SO WITH THE HELP OF A BRITISH CONTACT WORKING HERE AND HIS OFFICE ENJOY SOME IMMUNITY, I
WAS ABLE TO GET THE PACKAGE OUT

I HAVE NOW FOUND A VERY SECURED WAY OF GETTING THE PACKAGE OUT OF IRAQ TO YOUR COUNTRY FOR YOU TO PICK UP, AND I WILL DISCUSS THIS WITH YOU WHEN I AM SURE THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO ASSIST ME, AND I BELIEVE THAT MY MONEY WILL BE WELL SECURED IN YOUR HAND BECAUSE YOU HAVE FEAR OF GOD. I WANT YOU TO TELL ME HOW MUCH YOU WILL TAKE FROM THIS MONEY FOR THE ASSISTANCE YOU WILL GIVE TO ME. ONE PASSIONATE APPEAL I WILL MAKE TO YOU IS NOT TO DISCUSS THIS MATTER WITH ANYBODY, SHOULD YOU HAVE REASONS TO REJECT THIS OFFER, PLEASE PLEASE AND PLEASE DESTROY THIS MESSAGE AS ANY LEAKAGE OF THIS INFORMATION WILL BE TOO BAD FOR US SOLDIER’S HERE IN IRAQ. There's also one if your selling a car on craigslist Sgt. blahblah wants you to ship it to England or some crap.

Looks more like the standard Nigerian English idiosyncrasies, but I guess it could be Indian English too, would have to read it more carefully.
 
If he's an American soldier, why does he need it shipped to "your country" - wouldn't the US be his country too? :D

Retards in 3rd world countries will try anything....
 
If the Engrish doesn't stand out, you might not know you're an American to begin with...

I can't believe after years of this, that not one of these idiots has ever thought to have someone who speaks English as their first language write up the letter. I wonder how stupid some people must be to fall for this crap...
 
Go look in a few random threads in OEM tech...

ask yourself that question again :(

This guy's English is pretty good compared to some NAXJA users. He's got the same I MUST USE CAPSLOCK FOR EVERYTHING INCLUDING MY LOCATION AND USERNAME thing going on though.

Sad part is that once in a while i'd bet someone falls for this type of scam.


It got me thinking, I wonder if any US soldiers ever actually made a score like that? I hope so!

Lets not forget that the North American XJ Association is not limited to North America, and even users/members living in North America may not have English as their first language.

How is your French, Polish, German, Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, Swahili, Korean, Chinese?
 
forward it to the FBI - they have a fraud protection service where you can send them the info and they will follow up on it and keep it in their database
 
I forwarded it to the 1st ISP in the chain and asked them to look into it. That ISP is in the UK. I doubt there is anythng the FBI can do about SPAM originating from another Country.

Not so good, but my C is great.

If it looks like someone is not a native speaker, I'm all for cutting them a break - I don't nitpick them unless they ask for exactly the same reason you just gave.

It's the guys who clearly are born in the US and don't know other languages but still suck at English that bug me. Stupid stuff that's almost phonetic or you can tell is just the way they always murder pronouncing that word (for instance "pitnum arm", "would of", etc) just bugs the crap out of me, along with spelling the same word three different ways in the same sentence and punctuation abuse... the list goes on...
