New sliders

ah cool ok. and no, i dont give a shit. as long as i slide over shit ill be ok haha.

thanks for the heads up. ill taper it in though like you did. if thats what your taking about. looks good that way

We didn't do anything. He made up the sliders ahead of time. We left the 2x6 tube full width. There's probably an inch difference from the rear to the front on how far the 2x6 sticks out beyond the body. He asked me if it mattered, but I said it looked straight in comparison to the wheels, so we checked and sure enough it was. We thought the frame rails may be narrower in the front, but it was the body.

I was like you and didn't care as long as they were strong and functional.

I'll see how they do this Saturday. :woohoo:

Those are beautiful, and for what its worth, i like how the front sticks out further, it suits the Jeeps lines.

Any tips on removing the existing rocker, hell can you do a write-up??? lol

Well he cut them out after I left, but I think he just used a cutoff wheel on a die grinder after marking where he wanted to cut and the whole thing dropped out. You can see where it's welded on the underside and on the door sill. I don't think there was any other cutting, the 2x6 just slides right into place.

He has some 2x4's cut to the right length to hold them in place while he tack welds it in a few spots.

we had to pull the carpeting back, and there's a few places where the wiring sits on the floor, so we pulled that up. The undercoating is a pain to weld through and where the sheetmetal welds to the top of the slider is tricky, but other than that, it looked pretty easy.

The pinch seam is completely cut out and re-welded on both sides of it to the slider.

Very nice!!! I didn't even notice the taper at first until it was pointed out. My question is what did you guys do to address the rear of the lower front fender mounting location? Again very nice, was getting ready to start on mine this winter and this is right on line with what I was planning. It's nice to see what it will look like. I kinda have another idea with the tubing flaring out at the rear to slide things past the rear tire area. Kinda like the nerf bars on utv/atvs.

Thanks. Yeah, the front fender mounts are cut off, obviously. The first set he did he just tack welded the fender to the slider on the inside. The owner was content with just going in with a grinder & grinding the tack weld off if he ever had to remove the fender. We were going to do that, until my nephew looked at it and suggested welding a little right-angle tab inside the fender and on top of the slider, then you can either pop rivet the fender or drill and tap and screw it onto the tab.
My flares cover that spot so it worked well.

Hope that makes sense.

I talked with 'monkey' and sent out a PM to Dad'sXJ. I have his email address if anyone else is interested.

Here's some videos of this weekend:

You can see me pivot on the rock using the slider:

First time through this rock garden. I'm still stoked:

I wanted to bring this back up, it has been a couple of years...

Many people have asked us to make sliders for an XJ and this is the reason I don't. It is too easy to do this and have a much better slider than something we couple make that would be bolt on. Way cheaper and you GAIN 2-3" of clearance. Don't buy'em, build'em ;)

I picked up the materials I needed for about 100 bucks. There are so many write ups. It helps to have a welder along with some basic skills. Or find someone you know with them. The shipping cost would make them very costly.

These are beautiful! I need to nut up and do this to mine!

(After I install the ruff stuff frame stiffeners of course) :)
