New Shoes! Duratracs on lobos

Moved up to 31s! Goodyear Duratracs on Black Rock Lobos, 15x7 4.25 backspacing. I know, still small, but bigger than the 235s.

Here's how you fit 5 unmounted tires and wheels in the back of an XJ with a 15" sub installed:

Easy. Another reason IB rocks!


I folded the pinch seam, then checked for clearance with my flex ramp. Dead trees can be useful :farmer:

The front is close, but it clears:

The rear rubs on the bumper cap:

It was quiet going forward but popped on each lug on the way back down. I'm thinking of using a heat gun to bend it out of the way instead of cutting it. Anyone try that?

Yeah I dig the wheels, but I'm guessing the front is going to rip off when you flex while turning.

I did turn it some on the ramp and it looked like there was plenty of room. I didn't go to full lock though.

The wheels were from quadratec, listed for about 56, came to almost 65 shipped.

The tires were from discount tire, 171 each. 1 had a nasty groove in the sidewall, so they sent out another.

Had them mounted at walmart: 7 bucks each for mount and valve stem. They tried to balance them but their machine couldn't. I drove a couple of days unbalanced and they were fine, and yesterday I put 6 oz of ceramic beads in each. Haven't really driven it since but I expect they'll be fine.


I got a set of 5 so I'd have a full size spare, and if 1 does go bad at some point I'll still have an even set of 4. I'm planning to rotate every 5k miles.

So wheels and tires came to a little under 1200 before mounting. Biggest purchase for the jeep yet by far.

Oh, and I have a 1.5" boost (spacer and bastard pack). But I have 3" lift shocks so that's how much I'm bumpstoped. I'm going to do a sye and go to 3" when I can.
