bonus points if you make them wear tiny cowboy hats!

Yeah, rabies is a good point...and squirrels are a lot like wolves in the way you can have them as pets for a long time before they jsut sudden;y go totally wild on ya. Just be careful.

Its cool you are taking care of them but be aware of the rabies as mentioned and also they can be common carriers of bubonic plage. This is from the fleas on them actually, so watch out for pugsley there.

Had a GF that did this, took it to a vet and got it it's shots too. Fed it well and it grew into one heck of a big one that even cats and dogs would give a second thought to before bothering it. They can get a bit hinky around about 14 months or so, othewise they are pretty smart and trainable. Marion put a small flap on a six lite spare bedroom window so she could come and go, housebreaking was not a problem as long as that option was available but in really bad weather she would use a litterbox as she saw marions cats using it and figured it out kinda 'go outside and get soaked or stay dry and warm. Generally she would sit on my shoulder when we would go to craft markets and stuff like that outside and we'd put a small harness and a very light leash when going somewhere were she could get into trouble. Around 15 months marion had her fixed and there was no problem after that with hinky behaviour. They kind of act like a ferret only much quicker and less nippy, also she was an attention whore, not sure if that was a learned trait from my GF or part of the breed :D
I'd get out of my van at marions house and she'd come out of nowhere, scamper up my leg and plant herself on my shoulder for a few minutes of attention and then go back to playing. Then it was marions turn.... :laugh3:
If you are going to keep it check your local laws and if it is not allowed resesarch carefully a good sympathetic vet, one who will not turn you in to the local game wardens. When we got our ferret they were illegal in NJ so we had to take it to a vet in PA for her shots and checkups. Good luck and have fun, the two should keep each other busy. One word of warning, if you have any beakables up high like on a hutch or fireplace mantle MOVE EM NOW, they love to climb and scamper around and will knock things off. They also make fair watch dogs, you just need to key your ear to their bark or chitter because they will warn you when someone they don't know is in their territory.

I wonder what Beezil would have to say about this...
