Race day, I was working access control to pit-road. Was fun working with a lot of the teams getting them a spot that worked for them. It was rare that one of them got frustrated as I was running out of room to get them as much space as they wanted.
The large semi truck and trailer got stuck, so they pitted right there. Was still a decent spot.
Tons and tons of people showed up in Kias to pick-ups saying they were with so-and so team, but ran out of parking. Most were OK with parking behind the pits, a few gave some attitude. But hey, when it is full, what can ya do.
A TON of people drove right up to the pits wanting to park for the race. Some "spectator parking" signs would have been good. Pulled a few stuck sedans out that ventured to the pits.
My radio was not functioning well, so I was a bit out of the loop with what was going on.
Worked the pits until late in the evening when I was called to go out to Mile 8 of the track. 5 race vehicles where bunched up and stuck. Ran the course the 8 miles, while staying out of the way of fast running racers. Spotted two broke race trucks, and marked their locations. Spotted a race driver walking, and picked him up. He was from a thrid race truck. Got to mile marker 8. All but one of the trucks were on their way. Helped re-mark that section of the track so they would go around that section. Also spotted a few vehicles that were "on course" just because they were bored. Headed back to the start finish line, this time by a more direct route, instead of the course.
Had a great time. Thanks to everybody that put this on, made it possible to happen. A HUGE thanks to Chili's for the food. That was an awesome sandwitch.
Looking forward to the next race already.
Did not get much video, as the race was at night. But here is what I did shoot. Not the best quality, was on a Flip cam. I destroyed my Wife's Nikon at the last race.
