need tire size opinions

Thanks for the replies. I'll be going with 31x10.50 and if I need to then I'll add the tranny cooler.
I'll try to look a little harder next time but after going through 2 pages of threads my eyes started getting a little blury.

The trans cooler is cheap insurance ~$50 or so for a good B&M one - http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=3228&prmenbr=361
Unless your running a temp gauge on the tranny I'm not sure how you'll know when you "need" one. Plus it will keep a little of that heat out of the radiator if you put it in line before the radiator.
When you're running in the sand both the drag caused by being aired down and the high drag coefficient of loose sand will make it like you are dragging around tires 2x the size of what you actually are. Plus out on the sand you are running pretty much continuous for extended periods of time and in gears higher than 1st, low range.... I don't know about the other guys but more of my time out in the rocks is spent sitting waiting for the rest of the group to get through than is spent actually moving... but then again I'm usually on 7+ trails and in the CJ, and most of my junk is stick shift anyways :greensmok

I have a 1996 XJ with a 2.5" OME lift and I run 29x11.5 Mickey Thompsons and they do a really nice job in the sand. Just thought I would throw that in there for your consideration.

Thanks,

which Micket Thompsons? Baja MTX Radial?

DDC,

I run the Mickey Thompson Baja Belted which I find that they will rub a little if I have it on full lock or if I am really flexing the suspension. I am sure that this could be corrected with very mild fender trimming but I haven't had time to get around to doing that yet. The fender trim would be so mild that, to the untrained eye one would not even notice that it was trimmed.

Hope this feedback helps.
