need new windshield for 96

I need a new windshield and can get one for a 97-98. does anyone know if the 97-02 windshields fit the earlier model XJs?

All the same windshield glass from '84-'01, XJ or MJ. The later models use a rubber gasket around it, and the earlier ones have metal trim pieces, but the glass itself is interchangeable.

Can you use a late model gasket on one of the earlier Jeeps that used the metal trim strip?

I believe so, just have to remove the little metal things on the windshield frame that the trim strips fasten onto, look like nail heads for lack of a better term.
