Okay so my mom has a 1999 Volvo S80. The control arm bushing is shot, front suspension, rear position. Went to Midas they drove it and looked at it and said that the entire control arm would need replaced, and that a new bushing could not be pressed in nor bought. So I took it home put it up on a jack and took a look and some pictures. It is clunking away everytime we hit a bump. Heres the bushing which can be bought and to me it looks like it could be pressed in by a shop. The ? is how hard would it be to get the arm out and take it to get the bushing pressed in??

Any help would be awesome THANKS :helpme: :worship:

Loosen all the nuts/bolts on the control arm (the front and rear bolts on the frame and the balljoint nut), pop the balljoint apart, remove all the nuts/bolts to get the control arm out, have a shop press the bushing out or do it yourself (a sledge hammer and a socket or something big enough to fit over most of the bushing and into the control arm hole or use an air hammer).

It doesn't look like its rusted so it should be pretty easy to take the control arm off with the proper tools.

Thanks so much I posted on some volvo forum and all they said is to go to the dealership, which I refuse to do, they're ridiculous! So you think it'll be pretty simple? Again Thanks

The only thing that looks kinda weird is the front mount with the flat plate, is it held on by bolts or is it riveted/welded? Other than that it should be pretty straight forward.

I'm guessing that it's not too hard to press out, and obviously since the bushing is available as a spare part, it must be replaceable. I'd take it to a machine shop and see what they can do. Since the bushing itself is cheap, and you have to take the arm out either way, it's worth a try.

Have you called a Volvo dealer to see what they recommend? No harm in asking.
