Just installed an electric fan kit, go to start it, and i hear the starter clicking but engine isnt turning over.

If you live in or near Clarksville i could really use your help.

dude try to jump it.

no i mean jump the truck. the fan was prolly on while you were workin or the door was open dome light ect.... you battery might be a touch low. jump the battery. i only know this because i have done it a few times.

your battery is probably dead, a jump should do it.

....try anyway?

i get off work in a few, i can come help ya out, you got cables ? if not i'll have to run home quick, PM sent

im no where near you but its times like this that i am happy to have a jump pack. some of best money iv spent.

Way to be there Chris. GO SEC!!!!!

In a word....Yes.

What's the volt gauge inside showing? Alternator doing it's job?

with the headlights on and fans on it said around 12, but with the heater on full blast, it dropped to probley 9 or 10. so i think an alternator upgrade is coming soon.

also pickde up a yellow, will drop in tomorrow and see how it goes.

A fully charged battery voltage should be 12.7 volts. If it is less than 12.4, it needs to be charged. I wish I had my data manual here at home, but I think a battery with 12 volts is at least 50% discharged.

Yellow top Optima?

running the battery states 12v? then you turn on accessories and get 9v? ide be willing to bet you had a low batt before you installed the fans and drained it more with interior and hood lights on... i believe by your data that the alternator is no longer charging!

get a multi meter jump the truck anc check voltage at the battery with the jeep running it should be between 13.5v and 14.5v. by doing this you eliminate the guage on your dash.

so jumping it works, but then i have to jump it again. i wonder if my 2 year old walmart brand battery is dying. thoughts??

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. We've had quite a few relatively new wal-mart batteries come in to work and test bad...the voltage is there but the CCA's aren't. Not sure where they get their batteries from but they don't seem to be of good quality from what i've seen.

Also remember, Wal-Mart loves to sell on cranking amps, not cold cranking amps. Huge difference. Makes a cheaper battery look stronger.

I'll put my money in an East Penn/Deka built product anyday. Wal-Mart sells primarily JCI product.

Charge the battery and then check it out. Alternator could be going bad. Terminals/cables could be corroded. The battery usually gets a bad rap anytime the vehicle won't start but 90% of the time it is something upstream that caused it to discharge.
