Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

We are considering the option of a head exchange.. We ended up having to shim the valves about .020" what was really interesitng about that is after you installed a shim that was way too thin the valves would be slightly open. After allowing the engine to sit for about an hour the lifters colapesed some and the engine ran fine. It jus took some time for them to colapse.
