Need Guidance

I'm looking to head towards you all's neck of the woods about the second week of Aug. Last summer we were in the Mamoth area and found little in the way of 4Xtrails. The road up to Laurel lake didn't even show as a vehicle path on the FS map. Only found it by asking people at a ranger station. Any way does any body have a good sourse fo info south of Tahoe. East or West. Fishing is also a must for this trip, but unlike the desert down here I dont think it will be too much of a problem.
