Need another XJ :-(

Did you ever have that thing repainted or was it just that dang shiney!? I wish mine sparkled in the sun!

That was the original paint. The insurance adjuster asked the same thing!

I did a carfax on the Jeep when I bought it in 05. It had been a rental Jeep in the tri-cities area of NC. It had 2 reportable accidents on it, both "mild damage" to the RF fender.

We started tearing down Big Red today. I thought i would take some pics before there wasn't much left.

We will part some of it out but the engine/tranny/front axle and drivers door are staying. I'll start a thread in the SEC classifieds soon.

Here is what we are getting;

1989 Comanche, 4.0/AW4/NP231/short bed/162k.

It will get new interior, paint and 3" lift/31's

If you weren't so far away I'd want the fenders... but oh well.

It does look rather narrow. Seems like the interior of these things explode in an impact.

Its about 8" narrower at the frame rails, the pass floor board is buckled up and the tunnel is bent!

The drivers fender is fine although they are cut at the front, the pass fender is trash.

Did more tear down today, I had to cut the pass front door off at the hinges and striker.

You can see by the one pic just how far the rocker is pushed in.

I hope to pick the MJ up this week and start on it. Meanwhile we got a escort wagon for my son to drive until the MJ is done. Its a 1 owner(my mother in law) and has 230k on it. IT WAS FREE!

I hope he learns how to drive a straight before all the gears are ground smooth in that thing!

Pretty sure I've seen that MJ before.

I think you should drop it off here with some tube. I'll hook you up.

Yep, youve seen it before! He needs a full exo just for the street LOL!

This one is gonna be more show than go unfortunately. He wants to do black paint and there is no way I'm letting him wheel it with that much money sprayed all over it. Honestly, the body on that MJ is way too straight to wheel it anyway.

I had my body/paint guy look at it over the weekend and he fell in love with it at first site. He says it will be perfect when he gets done with it:cheers:

Whew! Very glad to hear about your son.

Looks pretty much like what I'd expect from these rigs. They're called "cheap", but I've never been anything but captivated by their ability to absorb energy, as well as stay solid through a LOT of tough wheeling.

Good luck with the new build and again, so very glad about your boy.

Freakin insurance companies....it's your vehicle, you pay monthly insurance payments because they're supposed to HELP you when you need it, then they turn around and make you pay them to buy YOUR vehicle..again. Why don't they take that $800 from all the years of monthly payments?

Glad to see that you've already got a replacement.

I asked that question as well. I'm told that is what a junk/scrap yard would give them for the Jeep if they haul it off. The engine is worth that alone so no big deal for me.

Man! You got lucky! Mine was in fantastic shape when I wrecked it a long time ago. I ran off the road and laid it over in a ditch. All it did was crease the A-pillar and dent the fender. and of course it broke all the glass out of the front. They wanted to total it. Charge me 1k to buy it back and give me a check for 1k. Mine is 93 but was flawless before the wreck!
I convinced the lady to not total it, and cut me a check for 2k. I had 6,000 worth of lift and tires and other stuff at that point. I sure wasn't letting them keep it!

Will definitely take the carpet whenever you get to that point :)

Give me a call Jon so we can work on getting together this weekend!

it will be Sunday evening if thats okay with you. As for the carpet, we most likely will use it in the MJ since the carpet in it is really bad. Just trying to save money!

I'll be changing the carpet in the black XJ soon, you can have that carpet when I take it out.

I got our new baby home today. Someone had hacked the fuel pump install years ago and it shortened the life of the pump. I installed a new Bosch and she fired right up and i drove it home. The thing runs awesome for only $250!

Its a 89, 4.0, AW4, NP231 short bed, 162k

The plans are;

Pull the motor and clean it up/new gaskets.
Change all fluids
3" OME/RE front lift, HellCreek 3" rear leaves
31's
Chryco 8.25 with flipped perches
New interior
Spray in bedliner
New shiny black paint after the dents are pulled.

Is this one getting the drivetrain from the xj? I like it.
