In the near future,
will go down for maintenance.
We will be shutting the forums down on this server, and moving to a brand new server. The new server has the same Processor Specs (Dual Intel Xeon 2.8), but new RAM and new SCSI drives (current server is IDE).
With this change is a new IP address for
. The old server will be operational for a short period of time after the move while we manipulate the DNS to forward traffic to the new machine. What this will mean for some people with ISPs that cache or do not regulary update DNS records, is that you will continue to see the old server.
The "forum closed" message will include the direct IP address, so you will then be able to access
in that manner. After 24-48 hours or so, that will work itself out as ISPs update DNS records.
The actual downtime will be minimal, however the DNS transition period is out of our hands. During this time, it is possible to "lose" a few posts, though we anticipate that to be minimal.
Once this move is done, you may notice a slight improvement in speeds. Our webhost (sb-host.com) is also working on a "hardware load balancing" solution to incorporate with the
forums. The exact details are not yet worked out, but should provide some redundancy should we experience a server failure.
continually strives to stay current on equipment to maintain a high degree of forum availability to benefit all of you.
Thank you for your patience during this transition.
