While you guys are mulling this over - keep in mind that, this year, we're going to combine an equipment check along with the basic
safety requirement inspection.
GRNT has laid out a trail schedule using an E,M,H,D identification. The safety stickers that will be issued after the inspection will reflect those classes (i.e. different colors). This will allow each Trail Leader, at a glance, to determine whether the rigs in his group are capable of dealing with the trail in question BEFORE the run.
That way, it is fair to the driver, as well as the group, to know what they're getting themselves in to.
Without getting too involved, we figure the following should be sufficient:
Difficult: Minimum 32" tires, AT LEAST one locker.
Hard: Minimum 31' tires, AT LEAST one locker or LSD, skid protection
Moderate: Minimum 30" tires, some skid protection
Easy (Liberty Class): Anything less.
We realize that there are other recommendations as well - like the willingness to accept body damage and possession of spare parts, but that is not something that will be "inspected". And, since lift is generally related to tire size, no one is going to be playing with a tape measure either.
No one wants to hold anybody back, but we also want to make sure that entire trail group has a good time as well, and above all, that we have a safe event.
