Just a quick note to say that NACFest '03 is history, and, it seemed to go fairly well.
I'll try to put together a summary in the next few days - with better details. That will be posted on the NAC Board.
Unfortunately, the 3.55" of record rain that hit the region on Saturday (especially Saturday night) and Sunday, led to a decision by the group to bail out (literally) on Sunday morning, so we cut the event short. Of course, the trucks didn't mind the rain and actually did great on Saturday (heck, we even had the "Stocker" group horning in on some Moderate trails!!!
), but we kept losing people (not even sure if some weren't washed downstream of the campground!
). The soggy consensus was that two good days were enough. Friday was a spectacular day in the sunshine at Paragon.
Of course, we still had two intrepid
'ers that showed up for the first time on Sunday morning in the rain - MattBlackXJ and John-Boy - only to find the rest of the XJ's scattering to all points of the compass to wade their way back home. Sorry guys.
Anyway, a quick thank you to the 30 drivers and their passengers who showed up - all things considered, it was a pretty good couple of days in the Appalachians. Nobody got hurt, and the damage totals were manageable as well.
More later . . . .
