My dream realized...no leaks.

For most of the years I owned my XJ I was convinced that the numerous leaks were a designed feature. A sort of early tracking device that allowed one to find their way home of they were lost by following the trail. Later, I became convinced that they were a sign that my testosterone laden XJ was marking his territory as a warning to other lesser vehicles. What ever the reason, I decided to put an end to the drips...encouraged more by the way the marks on the driveway interfered with our games of basketball. Well, valve cover, oil pan, rear main, and oil filter mount tackled, gaskets, o-rings, seals, and RTV later I have found the Holy Grail. My XJ does not leave a spot. The gods must be happy or distracted. Perhaps their favor will not last. Regardless, no leaks. (chorus from Handle's "Messiah" playing in the backgorund.)

Before you get too carried away, check the fluid levels.:laugh3:

Yeah I remember after my rear main was fixed I had no leaks either...it was like heaven, the problem is it lasted for a week until another one shot out, then another, then another. Hey enjoy not leaving a mark on your friends driveway while it last though. Good times.

I think I did somthing bad...when I bought my MJ it didnt have a rear main leak but then I started to rebuild the motor, well at least take off and replace everything that I could get to without removing the block and I was like hey replace the rear main, I am there so why not...Now it leaks....

True...however, techincally I would still have no leaks. NOt really concerned how I get there at this point. :)

Should I (we) be bothered that I foind great satisfaction in having a car that does not leak oil. Heck, I remember my late teens and I was darn happy if my car made it to work and back. Ahhh, the glory of middle age.

I think your tempting fate myself, especially bragging about it. I´m affraid if I ever got all the external leaks plugged up, my floorboards would start filling up with oil.

Yeah, as a teenager just running was all I asked. Then middle set in and my VW's marked their spot. Now I demand my xj's not to leak. I'm getting cranky in my old age!!

Be careful, if it's not leaking, it's out of oil!! :laugh3:

BSD - It must be a miracle. 3:29pm May 7th, 2005 - A moment I will never forget. My '94 does not leak! All it took was hours of troubleshooting, tons of work done on my back, and every seal the Jeep house had. I give it 2 weeks, but right now... No leaky!

I hate to say this but times have changed. It's no longer just having a car to get from point A to B. What I've observed.....
1. Parents are giving their kids more and more money to spend on cars.
2. Kids now care about how their cars look because of individuality.(not that that wasn't around before, it's just a bigger thing now)
3. We now have people called "ricers" who put $15,000 into an exhaust when their car is worth $500.

Sorry to bring the thread off topic but I thought I'd toss those comments in. :)

one time I was coming out of the Rubicon at night by myself, heading towards Loon and trying to navigate down the granite bowl. the oil marks were my yellow-brick-road and who knows how long it would have took me or what ledge I would have drove off if it had not been for those oil spots :D

other than that time, i hate it when my own truck is leaking
