Figured I should start one at some point, nothing fancy at this point just what I'm getting done on my heep a little at a time.

Got all the vinyl flooring out, only thing this stuff is good for is holding moisture under it :tear:

The whole rear area was soaking wet under it and it has been in my garage for 4+ months which has pretty low humidity.

Driver front not bad

Still need to get that goofy firewall pad outta there

Pass side not so hot, not the worst I've seen but still more work than I had planned on.

There is some daylight coming in down there...

I'll get after it with a wire wheel and see how bad it really is and how much needs to be cut out.

And the reason WHY it had water in it... That white wire hanging down goes to a NMO style antenna mount that the PO never sealed unless you count the plumbers caulk that was stuck around the base that was all cracked... :(

Bright side is its gutted and ready for tube

That's a bummer....:wow:
That's a good place for an antenna, good performance, but needs to be sealed.

Max Assuming that your xj is a 94 in your Sig the amount of rust you have is actually less then what I normally see of that year. Usually they whole area above the cat and muffler are mostly gone. Then again you have not cleaned it up so it could be worse then what the pictures are showing. LOL! Great start!

Ya I plan on some antennas on the rig but they will be done right. Also need to fab up a console of some sort for the radios.

Yep its a 94, and its not that bad I was just hoping to have none  Worst I've seen was in a 66 Barracuda or Valiant the PO had cut out some of the rust but used a speed limit, stop and yield sign to fab up a new floor it wasn't held down or anything just put the flooring back on top of it :scared:

Been slow going last few weekends, got the the wire wheel on those rust spots made some bigger holes  I need to get the seem sealer off the pass side rear floor to make sure there is no more rust hiding under there. Tried a few solvents to no avail of softening up the seam sealer next up will be the heat gun then a torch past all that a damn air chisel :banghead:

On a side note I need to get some new wheels for it, I've poked around here and a few other sites but was hoping from some local input what kind of back space I should be looking for on new wheels 3.5", 4", 4.5" ? The plan is 33's or 35's MAYBE some 37's looking for 16" or 17" size if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the input in advance.

33's-- 4" maybe 3.5"
35's-- 3.5"
37's-- too much for me.... no clue

im running 3.75 bs wheels with my 37x12.50s.... i im happy with it as of now its running d44's but they are cherokee width.... if you keep it cherocar width id run a little less bs, you can have custom steelies made through summit with down to 2 in of bs and they arent very much more than off the shelf stuff

So what I'm hearing is 3.5 should be good for 33's -37'd if I'm keeping stock width axles?

Sounds about right. My 35s were on a 3.75 BS wheel, they rubbed a bit at full stuff, full lock. With 37s you will need more width somewhere, either a lower BS wheel, or more axle width.

Sounds like 3.5 should cover me, I just need to build some flares to cover those tires :) or not

Let me preface this with I lost my job 4 weeks ago so I have lots of time now to work on it, just not as much money (funny how that works)

Long time no update on my little heep, it is now out of the garage and driving around thanks to Stump who lent a hand on the driver door (still need to add one more shim)
1st few trips out and about where alright big thing was the transmission seems to be behaving after doing that adjustment to the cable, with nothing in it but a drivers seat it hauls butt, but not so hot in the stopping department...
It has been sitting 2+ years get it home pull the front tires off, hmmmm oh yeah these rotors where junk when I parked it  off to get brakes and rotors... front brakes done drive around the block seems good lets take it down the road... Doing good almost to where I was heading drivers piston locks up weeee give it a additutde adjustment with a screw driver head back home with it dragging the whole way...
park it with smoke coming out of the wheel

Off to get new calipers as I have never had good luck rebuilding them... calipers done the wonderful glaze on the driver rotor taken care of need to bleed the brakes open up the MC... sigh brake fluid looks like brown water. Back from store with more brake fluid, empty an clean MC refill with good fluid and start bleeding/draining the system now the brakes work as well as stock 94 XJ should

Other than that I have pulled all the stock flairs off to get it ready for the knife (ie take it to Stump and bring the right gauge metal :) ) Stump's old roof rack is on it and some lights I had sitting around I'll get some pics up of it soon.

I have been hiding around here as the whole job thing kinda got me down and out, but I'm trying to get stuff done so maybe I might be able to show up with my jeep at an event tho it will be mostly stock so take it easy on me

Oh yeah also been working on the big truck as well, I'll take some pics of that to at some point

Sorry to hear about the job thing. Congrats on getting it on the road though. GL on finding something else.

so what's wrong with white 2 doors? if i ever get mine trail worthy, it'll be three!

There is just too many WHITE xj's period. 2 or 4 door...doesn't matter. Too many White. Like a bunch of 'fridges rolling through the woods...:looser::viking:

Funny they seemed rare at Harlan, like you :looser::wantyou:

Harlan? Isn't that in KY?? My XJ just might be ready to drive an hour safely...not sure about a long distance drive yet...I'll need a little more time for that! Had the biggest improvement in steering/stability w/changing out a loose unit bearing on the passenger side....that's after completely redoing front suspension...replacing 1/2 of the Currie steering that came on it:scared:....and got rid of a bunch of vibs w/the SYE and DS......and remember the oil pressure issues...just the sender....now I think the biggest offense on the highway is the dbs of those Claws:doh:

You're just jealous of us. You with your red XJ. Stop hating and get yourself a white one. Everyone else has. :moon::roll:
