MWC invades the SEC (cherokee crawl 2010)

Check the Crawl forum for a new announcement.

I promise you guys will like it.

Yes, I will need to plan that into my rides for next year.

I don't like wheeling where it's muddy and don't like body damage. Is WF the event for me?

I would say no but I have never been. I have seen lots of pictures of the Badlands though.... and I stayed at a...... oh wait nm. :gee:

mud depends on the temp and weather, it can get nasty in a few spots.
you won't get body damage if you don't follow Rev.

the green/white trails will be easy for your rig

Don't follow rev or brian and you'll be all set.

Alright... I have a little bit of bias against the Badlands since I live 30 minutes away and go there so much... so keep that in mind.

The wheeling is not as good as Harlan. I really haven't been to many parks, so I don't have great perspective, but... from what I've heard from others, there are plenty of better parks out there. Yes, there are some good obstacles, the quarry has some gnarly stuff in it, but the park is not that big (200-400 acres?) and so most of your trail riding is pretty short. Still I find myself out there at least a dozen times a year, and a lot of times find new places to go.

I think earlier in the year I saw Ghost ask if Winterfest was worth the drive. For how far he is away, that's a tough call. Because again, the wheeling isn't amazing, but the event is! It's very well put together, and a great way to get new guys involved in the club (which I know doesn't apply to you, Ed). It's a very good time overall, but I think even most of the MWC guys will admit that the majority of the fun happens around the fire.

Depending on the weather, a lot of the trails will be muddy. Body damage is mostly avoidable on the easier trails, but expect some scratches from brush. My biggest problem so far has been not having rocker protection, as some of the trails have some sizable drop-offs.

Bottom line: I'll make a 7-8 hour drive to see Harlan. I would not make a 7-8 hour drive to go to the Badlands. But if it's Winterfest... I'd probably make an exception and make the drive. :D

Yes I want to go to WF at the Badlands but it was not in the cards this year. Times are tough and may be getting tougher for me.... but I will jeep on one way or another just not as often. :looney:

Sorry to hear that, Glenn. At least you're still getting out there and having fun. We're all in an expensive hobby and it's tough to pick which trips are the best bang for the buck. The SEC did a great job at Harlan this year though and I'll see you at the next one.

Brad is right there but badlands is much bigger than that. Its more like 800. Its not spectacular but Winterfest is worth the drive. Be ready to either wear shorts or coveralls. Early March here is screwy. Harlan is by far the best place I have wheeled but badlands is ok. As for body damage. Green/white doesn't have much of that. I ride with BOB on green and the only damage I have seen is rockers and some scuffs. I may run orange this year since I will have a locker but will be doing green trail with BOB again.

You do not go to WinterFest for the wheeling.

Rev

That is what I hear which is why I want to go. Plus I hear some of you guys make some killer brews.

Ghost....you show up...I will be your buddy and make sure you get the correct trails, find the campfire, and get to dinner on time. Sean can assist you with chicken or beef.
