Mustang wheels on an xj

hey yall, remember to post pics if you do it

I just got these wheels in black for my 2001. I required a 24mm offset(to sit flush with fenders) and they machined the wheels out about .5cm due to them being hub centric to the mustang. Getting 255/60/R17 toyo proxes s/t's tomorrow

Spoo76, those are sharp Bullitts. I'm considering the same wheels for mine after my present tires wear out.

By the way, where do you park it? :lock: :)

Behind a gate in front of the camera like the other cars lol,
we dont take chances, even the race car, and cars with stock alloy wheels all get wheel locks lol

too true spoo, raise the rear end about an inch.

yeah im not sure if its struts or springs
Ill try struts first, then maybee air springs, i had planed to use this to tow my neon anyway
I honestly dont care that its an inch lower, just that its uneven

The rear end has shocks not struts. Shocks do not support any weight. Odds are that your rear leaf springs are sagging a little. The best thing to do is replace them with a replacement set. Airlift bags are okay but they can leak out or change pressures with temperature changes, basically more maintance. Or you could use a one inch lift block from a local parts store. They come with two blocks and longer U-bolts. They cost less than airbags or new springs. The only down side is that you are still stuck with old worn out springs.

The stang wheels look nice, try to find another wheel cap though. There are millions out there that fit, maybe even a jeep one.

Beware of rubbing on the front suspension with tires wider than 245, I bet 255's will rub at full steering lock. My 235/75/15's do but its minor. You may have to adjust the steering stops if the rubbing is bad enough.

My 235/65/17s rub, but only at full lock and as i said, it was a cheap tire :p $35 each if i remember
hopefully the 255/55/17s wont be worse

as far as the rear sagging,
what do stock replacements go for new?
i dont think ill do blocks, seems that wont help much when towing a car
airbags IMO are pretty reliable nowadays, sure there is upkeep, but it would alow me to adjust for towing

the caps for now have a plain matching graphite decal so it looks as if there is no logo at all, I have a freind that does auto graphics and i plan to make up some caps with the "Jeep" logo or maybee a mopar " M "

I just added a stock mainleaf with the eyes cut off, it netted about 1.5in and gave a little higher spring rate.

Leafs are probably sagging, the best thing to do is search on leaf springs in the mod and OEM forums, the same principles of spring maintenance and modification will transfer over here.

Air bags are pricey but cool and quite reliable stuff. Sure they might leak, but so might one's tires, and so might you break a leaf spring. Reasonable hazard to cope with.

Searching will tell you not to use lift blocks on a Cherokee, especially for a streeter. Lift blocks will increase the already high propensity for axlewrap, and will quickly wear out the worn leaf springs...

Thats why I mentioned blocks last, should have said least desired method. I have airlift bags on two vehicles, one bag has a tendency to leak, I suspect the fitting. The bags do require checking them, the pressures do change, I tend to check them when I check the tires. I think that your are thinking about air suspension, I am talking about AirLift bags, that are about $65 a pair from summit and others.

You know if you look at his photo his roof is level, the rear wheel weels on XJ/WJ's are cut lower and makes the rear look like its sagging.
