Really? didn't know that
Cat converter laws are Federal, not state.
Don't know if I am encouraging any criminal offense, I was simply giving options. It's up to the person to be responsible or abide by laws in his/her state. Also, there is a huge variation in laws from state to state. MICHIGAN HAS NONE when it comes to exhaust regs. This brings up another thought, how do these classic car resto guys like chip foose get away with it? I am assuming it is due to being "grandfathered" in since they usually restore cars that were originally designed to diffferent specs and regulations. Although, most of the "hybrid" cars he designs where they use part of the old car and new car systems, he still used no cats on most of the applications I have seen and he is in Cali.
AGAIN, I AM NOT SAYING IT"S RIGHT and am not advocating that everyone cut the cat. It's just that certain states don't even care and I have read alot of articles that show a cat doesn't really "filter" that much. I will most likely use a cat though since they are only another 70-80 bucks and it can only help, right?
Since the federal issue was answered, I'll adress the "classic car/chip foose" arguemnt... Classic car you do not need to update any systems beyond what was OE. For Foose style stuff, could be a few things, close enough to OE to pass,, or alot of states have "hot rod" "experimental" or "alternitive" use classes that adress and usually exempt this stuff
for your street driven/registered XJ you MUST adhere to OE standards per Fed Regs.
And Purple? Perhaps the reason you haven't seen answer to your question is that no-one has seen your question in the first place. At least, I rechecked this thread, and I don't see one anywhere? Perhaps I am missing something?
And do make an effort to work and play well with others. We keep getting complaints...
Or... he could just put a cat on them![]()

Lol, that's because the question that I've asked him several times and on a few different threads, that for some reason he hasn't answered, refers to the quote in his signature regarding my statement about bad valve seals leading to compression loss. For some reason he won't answer me when I ask him what happens when oil leaks down onto the back of an 800 degree valve.
Obviously he's tryin to ridicule me by having this in his signature. And I'm the one who doesn't play well with others?![]()
Hey you still haven't answered my question
