Muffler.....

Hereis dynomax. I like it. X2 on the more mellow sound and not too noisy on the inside. I know mine sounds pretty raspy but comparatively, it's really not. That and it came off a lot louder on video than it is in person. It's kind of a custom set up though so take it FWIW :)

i have a full borla system headers back...sounds good, stainless so it wont rust as easy...kinda pricey but i got mine from somebody who had no idea what it was for the low low special price of 100 bux, that was along with an HD tie rod, floor pans and a few other misc items.

That sounds nasty IMO, id get tired of that real quik.

x2 that is the common 6cyl tone I can't stand. I like the lower deeper rumble of the cherry bomb pro. That sounds a lot like a vortec muffler I ran a while back.

since the glasspack came up, I actually like the cheap one i have on my stroker, pretty damn durable too. the sound is not perfect, but for $20 who cares.

I looked at all of them & then went with a Flotech Raptor. I figgered I couldn't go wrong for $22.00. It has that low deep sound at an idle & at crusin speed its melower than the original Dynomax turbo in my cat back that burned out in 2 years...

Well I finally got a muffler and by force too.

MY muffler was making some strange noises I got to my friends place and started checking things out and He found a descent sized bulge in the muffler. So we took a ride to the local pepboys and picked up some tube and a Cherrybomb turbo.

Sounds sweet but I cant wait to get the highflow cat.

thanks for the advice and sorry I went with none of it (lol)

I got a new muffler by force, my exhaust broke off in some serious death wobble.

Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 now, sounds pretty good but not obnoxious inside.

I was/am in the same boat. After researching, listening and talking to several guys I have decided to either:

1.) go with no cat and go straight pipe (2.5 from downpipe all the way out) with the #12256 or #12586 MAGNAFLOW muffler. Depends on how loud you want it. If you go straight pipe the longer muffler (12586) would be better since just cutting off the cat and going straight pipe will make it louder. Yeah, yeah you will hear guys complain about not going with a cat but all of the older cars did it and when restoring old hot rods NONE of the guys, including FOOSE uses a cat. Not to say that it's right, I'm just saying.

2.) keep the cat and use any of their cats recommened for our engine size with the #12256 (shorter muffler) or even the #12226 (shorter yet) if you want to keep it loud (since using a cat will quiet it a bit).

you are going to here so many opinions and contradictions, it comes down to personal preference in the end

Personal preference, and whats legal.

Keep the cat.

Or you could just move away from all the treehugger hippies in CA.

Even if I move, they're still here, as well as in many other places.

Its not about tree hugging.

Don't know if I am encouraging any criminal offense, I was simply giving options. It's up to the person to be responsible or abide by laws in his/her state. Also, there is a huge variation in laws from state to state. MICHIGAN HAS NONE when it comes to exhaust regs. This brings up another thought, how do these classic car resto guys like chip foose get away with it? I am assuming it is due to being "grandfathered" in since they usually restore cars that were originally designed to diffferent specs and regulations. Although, most of the "hybrid" cars he designs where they use part of the old car and new car systems, he still used no cats on most of the applications I have seen and he is in Cali.

AGAIN, I AM NOT SAYING IT"S RIGHT and am not advocating that everyone cut the cat. It's just that certain states don't even care and I have read alot of articles that show a cat doesn't really "filter" that much. I will most likely use a cat though since they are only another 70-80 bucks and it can only help, right?

Cat converter laws are Federal, not state.
