I need some recommendations for a new muffler for my truck. right now I have stock and Im looking for more noise a good rasp and just an overall bad ass sound.
I looked at cherry bomb (Glass pack and vortex)
Flow master
Magna flow
Borla
Gibson
As far as Magnaflow/Bullet Performance mufflers, THey make them in all shapes and sizes pretty much. I would recommend probably a 18-20", They make oval ones with either centeer or offset inlett/outlet so you should be able to put it in place of stock unless you are going to run a different pipe out the back. The Dynomax UltraFlo's are similar in design as the Magnaflows as well.
Borla--it looks like you could save $200 by buying the xs pro scalpel rec'd separate and finding/having a nice stainless mandrel-bent tail-pipe/made elsewhere.
i installed the magna flow on my 96 daily driver and it rotted out 2years later. i changed to the borla xs pro in2004 and it still looks great. its not loud at idle or cruise but when i open the throttle it has a real good sound.
I put the 4wd hardware alluminized 2.5" cat back on my 99" and love it. It came with an Illco turbo muffler. it is not anoyingly loud, and it has a very deep growl to it. It was also less than $120 shipped a few months ago. In fact when i ordered it the total came out to be less than what the catalog's price without shipping was.
mufler r all in what u like in sound. u can go to a local muffler shop and ask them to hold them to the back end of of the tell pipe and that will give some what of an ida of the sound.
There is also a new muffler around. I have been running flowmasters for 8 years. When I went to coils I no longer had room to fit one anywhere. I went to pep boys and picked up a cherry bomb PRO. It is built, and looks just the same as a flowmaster, but is about half the size. Very small, like around 12" small. It was the only thing I could find to fit. I am running a 2.25 down pipe, 2.5 after that. To a high flow cat in the factory location. The muffler is mounted up under the rear seat, so that might make a little difference in the tone.
It has a very deep tone at idle, more so than a flowmaster, But as the rpms go up, it does not get drastically louder like the flowmaster. Now I do like my exhaust a little louder than most would. I have always ran a 30 series flowmaster, most of the time with no cat. The cherry bomb PRO with the cat is Much quieter than that set up. And you can get it for under $50.
