mud terrains

I figured id post this question here instead of the mod board since its the northeast and would like more input from chapter members.
Its about tax time and im looking to buy some 33" tires for the heep and was wondering which mud terrains you all like the most for the Northeast winters with more ice then snow. Im leaning towards the goodyear MTRs or BFG KM2s. also would you suggest 10.50 wide or 12. i have a 3.5" lift with JKS LCAs and cragar soft 8s with 4"BS. Thanks for any input

Only just realized this got posted in the for sale section sorry guys and gals if someone wants to move it they can.

super swampers are awesome for mud and trails, but suck for road use, and are downright dangerous in icy conditions.

any reason you want 10.5's? ive personally never like the look of pizzia cutters. id either go MTR or KM2, both are great, it just comes down to personal choice

I ran BFG AT's and BFG KM2's in the 33x10.5 size and I loved em. Much better traction then when I had the 33x12.5's on there. And it looks much better too... More proportional IMHO.

Currently running rubi jk takeoffs on 17" rims, but if I went back I would go with the km2's for sure.

I just thought 10.50s if there would be rubbing issues but from what I have read I don't believe there will be. The MTRs are what I'm leaning more towards I was more or less looking for real world testimonials with the folks who have run MTRs and KM2s in the northeast winters we have had. The heep is my DD but I will also have my current set of 30" BFG ATs.

if i had to buy a 33x10.5 right now it would be a toyo open country MT and i wouldnt even think twice. i currently run MTZs and they are the only truly DD streetable tire i would consider if i wanted an agressive tire in almost any size for anything smaller than a fullsize truck.

I agree. I DD MTZ's in the 35" flavor now and love them. That being said, go 35's, skip 33's, be happy. MTR-k's are a great DD/trail tire too, can't really speak for the others mentioned.

As a dd I think 33s is plenty big. I have 2 small children and with them getting heavier I don't want to struggle too much. Once I get a more reliable dd it may get 35s. I'll have to look into the MTZs l. How are they with snow or ice?

I agree with this.. I have a child also and even though my jeep is no longer my dd i still want to keep it a mutli prupose vehicle so I've decided to stick with a 33 myself but in a 12.50 width, the wider 33's seem to hookup better when air down with the wider foot print. That said I'm more than likely going with the cooper Stt because I can get a smokin deal on them new.. Pluse for what I do they should suite my needs just fine.

I had 33 km2s and they were good in the snow. But i imagine the mtr would be better because of all the smaller sipes they have.

I had the 10.5s because the wider ones were on back order. I dont think they are too pizza cutter-y. They wore well on the road and aired down to about 12 did well in the trails.

Skip the dura tracks. They offer great traction but the side walls are way to week for any thing other then a rough dirt road. I can thi k of 3 to 4 occations where someone i was wheeling with blew a side wall.

The sipping and tread pattern is why I was leaning towards the MTRs. I don't do much in the rocks but do wooded trails with mud and was hoping they would be decent in somewhat icy conditions on road. With 4" backspacing will I have to worry about rubbing the control arms with a 12.50 wide tire. I know I will have to do trimming with a 3.5" lift.

A 33" 12.50 tire on a 15x8 rim with 4" backspacing will be fine on 4" of lift with some trimming. It may rub slightly on the control arms, but you can adjust your steering stops to keep that from happening.

There shouldn't be and control arm rubing with that set up, I had the same wheels and tireh sizes on 2" and 3" with zero tire rub on the control arms, I just ran 2 hockey pucks per side for bumpstop extentions an relocated the stock flare to the body line

I have the fronts bump stopped with 2 pucks each. But my rears aren't done yet. I need new shackles and hd Offroad relocation brackets but I have the day star extended rear stops already to go.

I've been running the MT/R Kevlars for a couple years now (in 33x12.50), and I do love them. Trail or street, they work fine, and snow and ice arent a problem. One thing they will do in deep snow, though, is grab at snow ruts when it gets deep on the road, but thats going to be true of any 12.50...that's where the narrower width would come in handy. And the sidewalls are VERY durable, they have definitely stood up to the sharp rock test.

Thanks for all the input looks like ill be getting either the MTRs or MTZs. Ill have to see what I can get a better deal on when taxes come around.

MTZs have super awesome siping on the tread blocks. They grip better around curves on wet roads than the performance tires on my faince's Acura TL-S.
