The other thread was getting long and I have a lot of pics, so I started another thread.

Tony and I camped out at Sandflats the first two nights right by the entrance to the south half of Fins 'N Things and saw this little, right-hand drive Nissan contraption being piloted by a couple of Japanese guys head up the trail. It must have done ok because I saw it in town later that day with no visible damage.

Excellent pictures Jeff....

The lexus was on ebay about a year ago... IIRC, it was being sold by Stevenson Lexus.

That trip looks like so much fun, I want to go to Moab this summer. *EDIT* I WILL go to Moab this summer.

Thanks for the pics

I was watching some video of some SWB rigs on rocker knocker earlier today, and it looks like you guys were starting out much further to the right and then cutting over left. Whereas they were hugging the left line and basically using a boulder as a pivot to turn left. Did you do this to add more challenge/pucker-factor due to what seems like being more off-camber (based on the pics and all the work Troy has been doing lately)? I doubt I'll be able to tackle that trail anytime soon, I'm just curious. Great pics too, thanks for sharing.

Joe, the idea in driving up Rocker Knocker is to drive up at a diagonal so that the right front tire is in one of the "staircase" notches, and the left front is in the notch below - the rear tires then push from the larger notch below. The rig then "should" crab-walk sideways to the boulder you mentioned, pivot on it a bit, then climb up the groove. Some vehicles can't negotiate the left line due to wheel base and other handicaps. IIRC, longer wheelbase rigs can do the left line. The XJ's have a good wheelbase to do the crab-walk and usually make this obstacle look easy.

My issue was two fold: Solid locked front and rear, and driver error. I flopped because 1) I didn't wait for a side strap, 2) the right front tire climbed up out of the notch it should have been in causing the rig to tip over.

And I suppose the helium filled balloon tied to my front bumper added just enough lift too.... :D

Regardless, I don't think anyone should try that obstacle without a side strap unless they really don't care about body damage. It can happen all to quickly. I was glad to see all the side straps in the pics from this run!

You guys make me jealous. :(
