Mod diary for the streetpirate XJ

just picked up another 99 intake, this time complete with fuel rail, injectors, and throttle body. anyone need a 99 intake that requires some tig welding? (remember one mounting ear broken off)

i bought a new dd and have put some money into the wheels, tires, stereo and tint, and was getting ready to start throwing horsepower at it.

then i rememberd how much more fun the jeep was.
all funds are being rerouted to jeep engine account.

Sounds like a good project. I myself went with a larger front swaybar, but kept the factory rear one. What it does it control all the weight in the front wanting to rotate, while allowing the rear end to rotate more (producing small amounts of oversteer). That, along with my drop springs, bilsteins, and lower profile tires (235/55/17) provide pretty decent handling for a jeep.

Springs from a TJ 4 banger. They gave me ~1" drop in the front. And I swear Im one of the few xjs that doesn't have leaf sag. It still sits as high in the rear as it did stock.

i seem to stay consistantly poor, occasionaly buying a jeep part, then lots of crap, and being broke again.

update:

bought a megasquirt II, currnetly researching the installation of such a beast. plan is to get the stock engine running on megasquirt before i do any mods.

being stupid, hit a curb and destroyed passenger side tires and one wheel. need to order replacement wheel and get new tires (Horray for america's tire road hazzard program, you pay 30% more for tires and get them replaced free when you do womething stupid like ram a curb or big pothole)

The man is trying to sell you something to convert.
He is not going to tell you don't really need my stuff. How is he.
Take the motivation of writer into consideration and his advice with a grain of salt.

The slush box does make a lot of heat. All lockups do. It's the nature of the converter. It does have HD parts as stated.
The TH350 can be dirt cheep but not the 4WD version at least around here anyway and doing a 2WD to 4WD is never cheap.
If your going to spend that kind of money hold out for a 4WD TH400. The FACTORY TH400 4WD comes with some good peace's, little need to upgrade it. Unlike many TH350 that have been wussed out for decades. TH400 are out there just keep looking. I got one but you can't have it :)
In the end. The 4 IS a good peace of work. If you do switch. Buy what you need in one peace don't upgrade. It always cost a lot more to up grade.

Uhhhhh...

Say again?

I'm not sure... are you selling something? Or trying to convert someone to your religion?

I just don't follow...

:dunno:

Thanks badron, ummm... i think you just answered my question?

I dont have info but remember someone building aw-4s for jeepspeed. I blew mine 2yrs ago 2ft of colorado snow and 270k on odometer. wanted 3k +shipping both ways

How hard was it to pull that SC off at the boneyard? (Or did you not)

If it bolts on easy enough, I might keep the 4.0L around a while longer and add one of those...

it was already pulled, but i know it sits at the top of the motor and the unit itself only has 3 bolts that hold it on.

well maybe it's just us oregon boys but i think your jeep looks good.

(a little off kilter i've never been one for "pavement princess" jeeps but the muscle car motif is adapted quite nicely)

i especially like the mopar scoops on the hood.

i think if you went with a slightly narrower in the front and more rake you could pull it off a little better but then you wouldnt clear your 30's.

add some go fast vendor stickers and nobody'll doubt its a street machine.

also with that wide of a tire in the back i would be worried about snapping an axle unless you leave the rear sway hooked up.

if you remove the rear sway bar you'll sacrifice a small amount of handling (not a lot cuz that things low and wide) but you'll gain traction.

when you romp on it from a stop the pinion gear wants to "climb" the ring gear. simulating that the passenger corner of the vehicle wants to "drop" but in reality it is that same corner of the axle wanting to com UP, taking weight and traction away from that tire. (one tire fryer)

with the sway bar disconnected you will let that corner of the jeep drop more hence giving that tire more of the traction it desires.

the handling sacrifice will be miniscule as the front swaybar does most of the work.

here's my car i just got rid of.

had BFG's on the other side but they rubbed a little. i did the paint in a couple hours with some flourescent rattle can.

people can say what they want but when it's your own vehicle it looks WAY different.

and here's a pic of my jeep before the TJ flares and extra 2" lift.

cant get enough traction on street tires to snap an axle, remember, its the d44.
