Midwest Twisters

Maybe it was a weight thing? The current TIV2 is pretty reliable in recent years it seems. You got to be heavy to not be easily picked up by the tornado, but be light enough to be able to drive and not sink into mud on dirt roads and have some speed and mobility.

They do make 4x4 MDT chassis, and with the addition of a proper OBA system and big rig airbags you could have more ground clearance than a 1 ton truck, and then drop it until your side skirts were in the dirt. Lets face it, a 1 ton truck is just not the ideal base chassis for that type of vehicle, but it is easily modified into a crude armored vehicle.
IIRC the first one had terrible axle issues, mostly because the weight of the vehicle far exceeded what the axles were capable of.

Personally, I would have started out with a duece, bobbed it, air bagged it, and armored the crap out of it.
I have seen the show.

I have seen the pics.

The engineering is poor at best.
The welds are worse then mine.
The base vehicle choice for both is not heavy enough for the duty.
It is UNSAFE on the road with other traffic.
The driver is poorly trained and ordered to perform dangerous maneuvers in traffic.

I agree, and I watched the show for about 5 minutes before changing it.

Looks like Darwin Award time to me.

If only Darwin would strike 100% of the time
