Some pretty interesting background on what Harlan County was like back in the coal mining days. The county we are fixing to visit has a very bloody and violent past. These clips gave me an interesting perspective on what the residents of this county had to fight for. It made me stop and think a little, and a result, hope that it helps me appreciate the area when I am there. It is certainly food for thought. Here is a 5 minute clip interview with a documentary filmmaker that did a move about the Harlan miners strike. This movie won the plenty of awards in 1976 and was put into the Library of Congress in the early '90s.
