I have heard that it was done to an MJ. Anyone know if there is a build thread? Anyone have any first hand knowledge on this? Tim I hope you see this and chime in you have more experience with MB diesels then me. Anyone else? Goal would be a fuel efficient wheeler and DD. The 07 and 08 Grand Cherokee had the modern 3.0L from MB in it. Would that be a better candidate? I would think it would get 20+ MPG around town and close to 30MPG on the highway. I base this on my experience with the E300D that I was given recently. I get 26 - 29 around town and its a heavy car IMHO. Thoughts? Discuss.

Lift the E300D. :)

I fully support this.

Interesting idea swapping the 3.0D into an XJ. I'm not so sure on your MPG estimates though. The Merc may be heavy, but remember the XJ has worse aerodynamics than a brick...

While this is true about the aero characteristics I still believe it would get 20+ MPH. I mean the renix jeeps get that.

I hear that a carbureted 350 swapped into an XJ get's phenomenal fuel mileage.

I wouldn't put anything chevy in anything I drive. I think you are making fun of me and I don't appreciate it. Don't you have work to do?

You have no idea. However I am finding small MPG increases by doing some fine tuning and re-tuning. Of course gears would help a good bit, but tuning is free.

Dude, if you got the gumption/money to do it, anything is possible haha, but yeah I need to keep reading on that thread...once I'm outta college I'd love to get a 12v Cummins and stuff it into my XJ, I have a feeling that' be slightly awesome lol

My buddy Jacob has swapped a 4 bt into a yj, and. 12 valve into a ford explorer. The yj is really cool, on tons and 37's, where the exploder looks totally stock.
I think he sold the exploder...

I guess the easiest swap would be one from a GC. Anyone know what transmission and transfer case they used?

SO what would actually be feasible is running a BMW 2.5L Diesel (M51) with a Landrover or DISCO 2 5pd Transmission and transfer case. (you would have to flip the T-case to keep DS drop)
but it would be a bolt in job-ish

Not familiar with that engine.
