Preserve and Promote Historic OHV Recreation at Northern California Beach Area



The Center for Biological Diversity and other anti-recreation groups are working overtime to kill family-oriented OHV recreation at Tolowa Dunes in Northern California.



The California OHV Division has been meeting with local recreationists and trail groups to discuss the preservation of historic OHV beach access near Crescent City.



Anti-access groups have started a hate-mail campaign asking California State Parks to ignore the recent vote by the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors that supported multiple-use recreation, including OHV use, at this site. In fact, the Center mentions the efforts of the BlueRibbon Coalition and Open Beaches and Trails to promote responsible OHV recreation in this area.



Please email a letter today to the director of California State Parks, Ruth Coleman, asking her to support continued collaborative efforts by the OHV program and local users regarding this issue. The email addresses and a sample letter are at the bottom of this email. Please send it now.



If you can, please attend the public hearing on OHV access on February 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Please support the efforts of the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division, local access advocates, and Open Beaches and Trails to work in a collaborative manner regarding the preservation of historic family-oriented off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation at Tolowa Dunes in Northern California.



As you know, the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors supports multiple-use recreation, including OHV use, in the Tolowa Dunes area and has directed staff to work with the Del Norte County Fish and Game Commission to draft a letter of said support that also includes more OHV law enforcement.



Continued efforts by access interests to provide for managed OHV recreation at Tolowa Dunes is in compliance with the California Public Resources Code Section 5090.02 (c)

(1) Existing off-highway motor vehicle recreational areas, facilities, and opportunities be expanded&



Managed OHV recreation use at Tolowa Dunes is an important and historic use. Please support efforts to preserve OHV recreation at this site.

Yes. This is a public forum hearing, please show up and support. MNF has great trails, mostly former logging roads & railroad roadbeds that have been left to fallow. Pretty scenic area to wheel in and camp in. easy to get to from the bay area and not crowded.
