Since we just spent almost $1000.00 renewing plates on all of our trailers I looked into Maine registration.
I guess you can license a trailer in Maine with out being a resident there.
The cost is $99.00 for five years and $199.00 for ten years.
we have four 14,000 pound trailers and it costs $175.00 per year a piece, plus three box trailers, a boat trailer, and an "office" trailer.

Any one have any experience with this?
I know trucking companies do it all of the time.

I know its extremely popular here in Mass, but I have heard of state police down here pulling over mass residents and threatening them with tax evasion for having trailers registered in Maine.

I can't recall if any of the guys in the NAC have ME registered trailers...

You should just say it's from SC. We don't register trailers... at all. No titles. Nothing.

The only trailers required to be registered are tag along campers longer than 10'.

A co-worker who lives in West Va. did just that with his horse trailer.Has pulled it as far west as Texas and up n down East coast with no questions or problems that he has spoken of.

Some states that require trailer registration also require it if the trailer is out of state. I know WI trailer reg is optional in-state but you must register it if you want to use it outside WI, I asked about that a while back.

Just like NH residents are not required to insure their vehicles but they must if they want to drive outside NH without getting ticketed/impounded.
