just letting everyone know that the date is set :

MARCH 4TH @ 2PM IN THE AUGUSTA WAL-MART PARKING LOT. FEEL FREE TO COME ANY ONE !!!!

After your M&G, let me know what's up there. I have a friend who has a couple acres in Clinton. I have permission to use the property. It is a great place to camp- small river on one side, a stream entering the river on another, a country road on the third, and undeveloped land on the forth. We've had a big camp fire there and he says he's caught fish.

If it turns out feasible, it might lend to making the trip more economical for a few who would have to drive six hours to get there in the future if one of the officers would like to set something up for up there again. This summer, I'm helping him put some sort of a new outhouse or something. The trailer that's there needs some work, but there's plenty of trees. My guess is you can get four or five Jeeps camped out there without overcrowding.

My budy and his wife usually bring their horse trailer that has build in living quarters. I just bring the pickup and throw a sleeping bag in the back for me and the dog.

Why do people keep thinking this is to replace the northern NAC meeting? Are we only allowed to meet other jeepers on this forum if its an official chapter meeting?

Well, though I only speek for myself, I would think it's for members and black names. Only might be extreme, but if it's a NAXJA chapter meet-and-great, it certainly lends itself to being open to club members, or prospective club members. Isn't that the point? Of course others could come, but wouldn't it be for trying to entice them to join NAXJA ?? If the intent is a meeting of local friends, then it might as well be the Mainer's Something-Or-Other M&G.

When I go to a club M&G, it's because there are other members who are interested in the same Jeep as I am and are paying dues just like I am. I don't know, I think they call it a club?:patriot:

Exactly!

Thats all this is, and I don't know of anyone saying otherwise?

I just hate to see the northern NAC meet and greet cancelled over misunderstanding. I wanted this little maine meeting to happen to have people to travel with to the northern NAC meet and greet, or other chapter events. Not to override or exclude them.

I only answered the question you posted as I understood it. I wasn't trying to make an issue out of it. I'm just asking for input on what's up there- to see, to do, where to eat, etc. I may offer the use of the property for a few who have a long drive and perhaps not enough for a hotel if Grizzly aranges a NAC M&G up there durring warmer weather if it lends itself, that's all. :wave1:

Have a great time!

Sorry ajpulley it wasnt directed at you, its something thats already been made an issue.

I don't know the Clinton area myself but its like the rest of this part of Maine. Im sure there are plenty of areas to ride, the area you describe sounds like it would make for an awesome weekend getaway for those near and far. Which river is it on? Nothing better than swimming, fishing, camping and wheeling!

I couldn't make it to the M&G today, but after reading some more of the posts I can't believe people are still all worked up about this. I completely agree...I guess we can't meet with our fellow jeepers unless its "official" or we are given permission or whatever...I really thought being a member of NAXJA would be a way to meet fellow jeepers in my area...maybe I was wrong. I lost count of how many apologies were made for this obvious misunderstanding, but evidentally that doesn't seem to matter much to certain people. At this point I must say that all this "drama" has forced me to really question the future of my membership...

Then again...maybe that's just the anarchist in me talking...who knows....

AJpulley let jeepman (andy) and my self know when you come up to clinton next. ITs the next town over a friend of mine from school lives over there and has some land we could possibly wheel to if I ask her nice enough.

Chris

So how did it go today? I didnt end up making it, ball joints are a lot harder and take longer to put in then i thought. Hope there was a good turnout.

nope actually it was just me and 98xjsport. to my surprisement... all the people who looked interested didnt come? i dont know where everybody was but we waited till like 3 for ya and no one else came. i would like to meet some time in either late march or early april. that way people who didnt or couldnt come today could maybe come and meet the people who are actually behind those screenames. didappointment. thanks again 98xjsport for supporting the meet. maybe next time we can get something going.

Of course you can.

However ... if you go back and read through BOTH threads, as I did recently, it's obvious that a chapter officer was in the middle of planning a M&G that was specifically intended to include folks from Maine and New Hampshire, and that effort was hijacked by someone who was too impatient to let the chapter officer work out the details, and too immature to contact said officer back channel and offer to help out. So instead, a meet & greet was arranged that, if it wasn't intended to replace the "official" meet & greet, would have competed against it, but was arranged in a location where many chapter members who otherwise might have wished to attend (such as myself) could not do so.

I have no problem if anyone wants to promote his/her own M&G for like July when the chapter officers are planning one for April, but when there is an active discussion about planning one for March and somebody steps in and sets one up in direct competition to the "official" one -- that I have a problem with. IMHO it's just plain rude and irresponsible.

From what Ive read in the "official" thread (which we in this thread were all posting ideas/suggestions on how to make work) had no set date, time or place. We didnt "plan" this little get together to begin with, this literally came up 2 weeks ago, this was the soonest we could make it work. The best I gathered from the official meet and greet was MAYBE late march. So even better for a few locals to meet up before then and hopefully plan for the trip down.

If we had intended to hijack/compete with what Grizzley was doing, why would we choose Augusta? This was only local to the like maybe 4 of us? And why would we just suddenly do it without planning, on minimal notice?

And I still dont see how this got blown up into a full fledged chapter meet and greet? We talked jeeps in a wal-mart parking lot freezing our balls off for an hour. Is us doin that in the same month that the chapter officer was trying to organize an official northern NAC meet and greet really worth all this?

jeepman it was good meeting you, its always good to meet a fellow enthusiest no matter what the circumstances.

ajpulley thats awesome the kennebec above augusta tends to be very nice for many reasons. Like Bluexj96 said, give some notice on your next trip up if you are interested in other jeepers bumming about. As long as nothing is planned that month, that is :P

Thanks Chris, I'll look forward to it some time.

Guys,
Screw all the B.S. about the animousity from the meet and greet. Here in Colorado we have them all the time and have unorganized trail runs every weekend. No one here gets bent out of shape over it. I am a member of Naxja as well as 3 other XJ/Jeep clubs and we dont have all this B.S. You all need to grow up and work together to make the NAC a stronger chapter. My family and I will be moving back to Maine this Spring and plan on starting a Central Maine XJ/MJ club. I have been wheeling for 15 plus years and have never seen such childish behavior. If you all keep it up, you will end up losing members. It happened in Texas because of the same stuff when we were members of the Naxja chapter there. Let's keep it real. I also want to put together a XJ/MJ Jamboree for the July/August time frame. I also applaud jeeperman for what he did. Keep up the good work. My wife and I would have been there today if we were in Maine. I will also be opening a Jeep/4x4 shop in Central Maine.

hey guys sorry i couldnt make it yesterday too. drove up by walmart and saw one of you guys by eastern mountain sports. maybe next time there will be a better turn out, and my heep will be a little more road worthy by then.

on that note.. anyone know how to put a windshield in? my roof is still a little tweaked and i dont like the idea of paying 180$ for a winshield that may leak or break in a few months..

ok lets close this issue once and for all. Grizzley was planning a M&G, just because dates arent set and a location isnt sert yet it was WELL KNOWN that it was in the works for a set month. this thread started out with some VERY CRITICAL staements regarding the other thread and it's lack of progress. we understand now that it wasnt meant that way but the impatience and disregard in the planning for this was a kick in the balls that, although not intended, DID HAPPEN. it's too bad you didnt get more people to come out, and there realy isnt any problem with wanting to get togehter with other NAXJAers in you area. but your timing just plain sucked this time around.
we absolutely NEED more active people in the chapter and Maine is definately a place we are lacking organization and we could use you. just because you arent BOD doesnt mean you cant talk to us and help us out or get us to HELP YOU.

i think you may have learned now that a hastily planned M&G in a Walmart parking lot doesnt always turn out well. thats why time was being taken to find a place with something to do and make us want to travel that far and pay for a hotel.
it all came down to timing, we were palnning for March and you did as well. we NEED stuff to happen in Maine, and doing it as NAXJA wil promote the organization and hopefully spur membership. thats the real motivation behind our plan. if someone is gonna "rethink" their potential membership because they think people are "throwing a tantrum" maybe they need to get a better veiw of the big picture.

it would have been a better turn out if you had stopped instead of drive by.
