Any one swapped in an LS1 and auto tranny? I did a search for "engine swaps" and there was some mention of this swap, but nothing in depth. I saw an XJ with an LS something in a recient JP mag and want to do the swap. I wont get started until sometime this summer or fall. I just want to get the research started early. I know AA makes some 231 adaptors for the TH350 and 400, and Painless Wiring makes a complete harness for the swap. I will probably go with an SDS controller (http://www.sdsefi.com/). Just want to see what others, if there are any, have done and what issues/tips they have...

Thanks!

Give them a try. They probably forgot more about LS engine swaps then the rest of us know. Go to their website, click on parts and go from there. You will notice they ask you to ask any questions and they will work with you, rather or not you are having them do the swap or you are doing it your self.
The thing that interests me is they use a five wire hook up on their swaps.
Got luck.

I'm working on a LS series swap into my MJ right now. I have a '03 5.3L with an '01 4L60E with Advance Adapters 23 spline output shaft and housing with VSS mated to a Klune V mated to a Stak Dana 300 Replace A Case. I plan to use the factory wiring and modify it to work. We'll see. Right now I've got the parts mentioned above but haven't even bolted the engine to the tranny let alone mocked it up in the truck. I have extensively modified the truck frame rails though by plating the insides and outsides with 10 Ga cold rolled steel plate plug welded and perimeter welded on. Jeff

Wow, their packages are rather expensive! I can get an LS1 with tranny for under $2000, put forged pistons, rods, crand, new cam, and aftermarket PCM for WAY less than their lowest priced 350hp LS1 package, $8400... The LS1 is rated anywhere from 305hp to 350hp from the factory...

Im sure they are a wealth of information but I dont think I will be purchasing one of their engine packages...

Yep!! Sorry, my suggestion was to talk to them, not buy their stuff. They must keep it in a vault because it is expensive, but they are very knowledgeable and willing to help you out.

I just put a 5.3 into a TJ with a manual trans and used the howell wiring and computer. Very straight forward wiring. If you want the stock gauges to work then look into companies that will intergrate the wire harness to the jeep harness but can be more$$$$$

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to stay with the OEM PCM because I will be running the 4L60-E and dont want to try to find a PCM with a trans controller that will work. Im not trying to build a rocket ship anyway. Painless has a wire harness that I believe will integrate with the XJ. I will double check but I remember reading that somewhere.

I wish I had $10.5K to spend...

Got any pics of the job? What tranny was used? How far off was the trans mount?

Is there a short list of vendors that provide wiring harnesses that integrate to the ChryCo harness?

I'd really like to get the stock gauges to work.
