LS1 Cherokee

Pretty sweet. You actually made it look rather simple. I was looking at another write-up on here and the guy had to retro-fit Camaro gauges into the dash. That was the stopping point for me. I just didn't want to go that far. But after, after seeing you guage build, I am like "Why didn't I think of that?"

Nice job.

It wouldn't be that hard to adapt the Jeep gauges to work. You just have to adapt the proper senders onto the GM engine. For the tach, the GM computer can be programmed to output a proper signal. The speedometer would be the hardest, i wouldn't know what to do there.

On my Porsche i have all the factory gauges working. I put an adapter fitting in the block to mount a factory porsche oil pressure sending unit. I drilled/tapped one of the cylinder heads (in a factory position) for a coolant temperature sensor that outputs in the proper range (the other coolant temp sensor is a GM piece and sends the temp to the computer for proper function). I had my GM computer reprogrammed to output a 4-cylinder tach output and plugged that wire straight into my tach. Amperage/Voltage is easy. Gas tank already worked. That pretty much just leaves you with a speedo, and i know there are a few electronic solutions out there.

Um, yeah... That was my thought too when I started. Somewhere around '97 (mine is a '98) Jeep started multiplexing all data signals over a buss. You can't program the GM PCM to send that signal to make the Jeep cluster work. Tyler (the LS2 guy) had Novak do something to the Jeep cluster to make it work. Like I said, they started doing that after I did my cluster with the Autometers or I would have done it that way too.

If you are doing this swap in a pre-96, I am sure it is easier to get the factory gauges to work. I definitely like what John D did with the aftermarket ones tho.

John, what I was talking about as far as cast-iron vs aluminum, is that the cast-iron can take more abuse when it comes to higher cumbustion chamber temperatures. IF you throw a power adder or NOS into the mix, the cast-iron should handle it better.
Take for example the Ford 4.0L from the first gen Exploders, they had cast-iron blocks and heads and the later ones had aluminum heads. The cast-iron would have more resistance to warpage. AS I used to work at a Ford dealer, replacing the later model heads was a regular occurance.

Oh! That sucks. Well nevermind then! :eyes:

You buying Dennis's truck?

You know the owner of this vehicle?? I looked back on Race-deZert.com and it is gone. Nice vehicle. Would love to put a LSx engine in it and race a different class. Hell, it would probably be just fine for JeepSpeed alone.
