Due to family obligations, Ivan will be unable to host the Lost Coast run on May 28th. If there is enough interest for the run, hopefully someone could volunteer to organize it. Ivan has all the info needed for the trail. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this run but hopefully those interested can make it happen in May.

I’m sorry to hear that Ivan wont be leading this run. I really want to do it though so I am going to do this run memorial day weekend. Anyone who wants to come would be very welcome. I don’t know how much organizing there will need to be but I could show everyone the trail and I’m sure Ivan could post local accommodations. I’ve done this run twice with Ivan and it is really fun times and a beautiful place.
Here are the links to past years for anyone who doesn’t know what its all about.

Great, thanks for stepping up Bronco. Hopefully you will have a good sized group.

Really sorry I won't be able to host the Lost Coast Run this year. It's been a lot of fun hosting the runs in the past. I was really hoping to do it again this year, but it just won't work for me....

As Bryan mentioned, I've got a lot going on in May... My son is graduating from Humboldt State in May, and I'm going to be helping him move to his new location. On top of that, my In-laws home just went into escrow, and they'll soon be moving here near us! I'm sure I'll be wrapped up with that move as well :)

The links that Bronco posted for local info should still be good. If you are planning on coming, be sure to book a place to stay early on because things do get filled up for Memorial Day Weekend.

Maybe next year next, when things hopefully won't be as hectic for me...

Ivan

I just made a reservation for Richardson Grove for the night of the 27th anyone who wants to share our site is welcome if there are too many for one site we should get another one. The trail run will be the next morning. We will meet as per tradition in front of the Waterwheel restaurant in Garberville at 9:30. That should put us at the beach about lunch time. Kelly and I plan to just stay on the beach Sunday night.
This really is a fun trail. We start out going thought the big trees and then come out on a ridge over looking the ocean for some sweet views and then continue down to the beach. This is a very family friendly trip. Stock rigs are fine and welcome but at least one tow point would be a good idea as there will likely be some muddy spots.
There! How’s that for planning?:compwork:

How big are the group sites? Are you only reserving the site for the 27th?

The sites have a limit of two vehicles but I think they will flex that a bit on a holiday weekend. Extra vehicles can be parked elsewhere in the park. Then it’s like 10 or 12 people max. It sounds like my brother is coming with his family (5) and a single friend of mine is coming as well so we may fill one site up. If you are coming than we should try to get the next door site too. I’m hopping that more people will want to come as the time gets closer. So let’s get another site if you are coming. I can make the reservation if you want and we can work out the money there. I was just planning to stay on the beach the second night so I only made reservations for the 27th.

How do you think the trail will be after all this rain? Im may have another Rig or two interested in some nice seinic trails. Ive been dying to do some camping. Who knows when all the snow will melt.

Muddy? ;) In past years it has rained a lot just before the trip so I don’t think it will be a problem. There may be some washed out bits but it shouldn’t be a problem.

It looks like we will have a good size group, though many of them are not coming from NAJXA. I have reserved another site but if more people are thinking of coming there are only two site left in the area where we will be camping so it’s time to speak up. Here is a link to the campground: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=422

Did you see that they had WI+FI. Now thats roughung it.

Wi-Fi Service
Richardson Grove State Park now offers SBC FreedomLink Service!
This service enables park visitors with wireless enabled laptop computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs) to access the Internet. Park visitors will be able to gain Wi-Fi access when they use a wireless device within about 150 to 200 feet of the Ranger Station located in the park.

Ya I got a kick outa that too. Could be handy for checking the weather just before we roll out. I don’t think we will be able to get reception out where we will be though. So you are coming right?

im pretty sure im goin. I sent u a pm bronco.

Im planning on bringing my wife Krista and Aria my 8yr old little girl. I have one or two more Vehicles trying to decide. I will have confirmations soon I hope.

Requirements For Vehicles on the Sunday Morning Trail Run. (You can get to the beach in a civic another way)
Four wheel drive
At least stock XJ ground clearance.
At least one solid tow point.

Recommendation for if you want to drive on the sand at the beach.
32” or bigger tires aired way down.
One or more lockers
At least one solid tow point.

Is the beach sand really soft? I was just at pismo and stock trucks with 2 wheel drive can get places if they air down to the single digits.

Well the beach stuff is just recommendation. I’m not telling anyone what they can’t do. The sand is more course than I imagine Pismo. Think pee gravel.
Every year I’ve been there have been people in trouble out there with the tide coming in.
