175 K on 92 XJ an she runs great, no leaks, doesnt burn, full synthetics. 4.0, auto. needs samll stuff(not like a 19 yr old would care), AC recharge, paint and rear hatch struts. All else good. I'm lookin into loaded Grand for ME!!! What best years, don't want too many miles, but I want all the goodies, buying used, what diff. between the much loved 4.0 and the V8's(mpg Im sure)?. Thanks,
Well I have a 92 XJ and a 97 GC both with the 4.0L. I get 21 MPG with the GC but the power is less. I really like driving the XJ much better. I knew a person who got 21 MPG with their 95 GC with the 318. You might try a query on NAGCA.
I agree that you will get more experienced reviews at NAGCA. Of course, like everywhere, most folks will tell you that what they have is the best. :laugh3:
As stated above, I have both and while the ZJ is more cushy, the XJ is more fun to drive. The XJ is a truck, you feel the road. The ZJ has better sound proofing and fit and finish in my opinion. The big debate you'll hear is over which engine to look for. I have the 4.0 which is just fine for my purposes but with 31's you won't be leaving tire marks on the ground. Still the 4.0 but has got plenty of power to go any speed on the highway fully loaded.
The folks with the V8's will tell you and rightfully so that they enjoy the increased power. Personally I thing the 5.9 is overkill. Yes its powerful but it feels like a hog. And some say that they don't sacrifice too much in fuel economy. Just remember that its all the little "goodies" that are prone to breaking and from what I understand particularly in the Grand Cherokees. There is always somone in the forum asking about how to fix broken door lock actuators. My ZJ has at least one dash light out which I am going to replace this week. In my 30 some years of driving used vehicles I have NEVER had a dashlight go out.
I know I'm writing randomly here but whatever you do I'd highly recommend upgrading the anti-sway bars to Addco's. I got mine from Kolak. I know there are a thousand GC out there that do just fine without them but the improved cornering capability was pretty remarkable to me and I just bought one rather than both. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.
