I'm looking to upgrade my catalytic converter for the least amount of money but best gain. Just wanted to throw this out here and see what you guys think I have a 96 xj auto 4 door. Also if someone has one they want to sell let me know I may consider it as well.

"Looking to get a new Cat!"

id sell ya mine but i dont have a cat anymore, i dont like them, bad for the environment

Lots of Cats HERE in yor area, very cheap, im sure you could find an "upgraded" one that preforms better than your current one

You always said you hated that damn cat....

Oh wait, different cat..:D

Magnaflow FTW!

Any aftermarket cat has the same flow rate they all have honey comb internals. but if you wat to spend money go ahead .

I've been running a magnaflow for years. Picked it up on ebay for $40.00. No issues...

LOL.. honestly. i have a ton of posts, and no real knowledge.

I just bought a magnaflow cat, to have someone tell me its not an upgrade is like a toothpick in the heart.

for all i know tho, he's right??!?!

like i said, i have a magnaflow cat and muffler with 3" piping on my 5.9 it was a huge upgrade in sound and on the Butt-dyno.

Sorry, I'm still runnin stock. I wouldn't mind upgrading if there is one that truly upgrades the exaust system.

FYI I work at a Meineke I am their exhaust tech I have done a side by side comparison of the Magnaflow and Catco cat's . The Magnaflow seem to keep a stock size and appearance while Catco has a nice universal that flows well .Plus The catco cats are half the price of a magnaflow .
The catco part # is 2505r for 2.25 exhaust cos 78.99 and 2506r for 2.50 exhaust 75.99 from summit .
This is a true high flow and the only one I would use .

There is your difference you have a 5.9 he is dealing with a 4.0 2.50 exhaust is plenty big for the 6 cyl . I also know performance on exhaust is not just the cat but the complete system . If it is tuned well with all the proper transitions and pipe size you will get better performance .But throwing just anything at it will not create anymore power or performance . You could also lose power .

I replaced the stock, rusted-out muffler on my 4.0L a few years ago with a Flowmaster 50-series. Went to try to get the O2 sensor out of the cat so I could pull it all down at once. No go. Decided what the hell, I'll just get a new cat and O2 sensor while I'm at it. :laugh2: Went with the Magnaflow cat and have been very happy with it.

Basically looking to replace from the cat back. Dont want to get into a duel exhaust just want to keep the stock placement and upgrade my cat and muffler. I'm not necessarily looking to go bigger on the exhaust either. I know I can loose power if I do too much so I basically want to keep it relatively stock but let the cat and muffler flow more. As far as muffler goes I'm probably just going to get a Cherry bomb.

I would look at a catco cat and a magnaflow muffler I like the sound of this muffler and it is stainless steel . This way you don't become loud and obnoxious on the trails plus the drone of a cherry bomb might drive you nuts .
