Lookin for someone to get broken drill bit out.

I broke a 1/16th" bit off in the output shaft for the TC while trying to drill the pilot whole for my SYE. Shoulda started w/ 1/8" but to late for that now. I've tried black oxide and titanium bits but nothing is getting through.

So I think I'm going to have to find someone who CAN drill it out. The closer to Woodland the better. Hopefully they can do it still in the car as the whole point of this was so I didn't have to disassemble the TC.

Any suggestions?

I don't live too close to woodland, but I do have some advice. The easiest way to remove it is to grind it out with a small carbide burr. Use a die-grinder with a burr on it and grind away at the broken bit. Normally this is done for broken easy-outs and taps but I'm reasonably sure it will work if you can find a small enough bit. You may also want to try a dremel tool with a small grinding stone or burr. As long as you don't go crazy and enlarge the hole past your final drill diameter size you are ok.

Thanks Brian, I (sorta) tried that today with a grinding stone (blue one) that came with my dremel. It turned to powered in less than a second

Any suggestions on where to get a carbide bur? Home Depot and Osh are the major stores in town, but there seems to be alot of little machine shops to.

OSH will have better selection for what you want. I think the Dremel is the best bet. You may also want to try drilling an 1/8" hole right next to it and then oblonging the hole to get the other bit out. This way when you move to a lrager bit it wont be so out of center that it will get screwed up. Just remember that when you are trying to drill out this bit if the spped is too fast you will just harden the bit you are trying to remove.

Why not just trim it off and leave it in there. You can rotate the output shaft and try another hole with 1/8" bit.
