Long Travel Coil Springs?

I am looking for the longest travel coil springs, I only want 6.5" of lift, but I want to be able to use as much of the travel as possible. I have Johnny joints on both ends of my new longarms, and my Rusty's coils dont have the travel I am looking for. I might go to Coilovers sometime, but it is not in the budget right now.

who's long arms?

are they a radius arm style long arm - I.E. the Upper control arm attaches to the LCA and the LCA attaches to the frame - you only ahve 2 contact points with the frame (excluding the trackbar)

if so - put 2 bushings back in, your suspension is binding, not the coils...

look into where your suspension/steering/trackbar/shocks/brake lines bind by putting the jeep on jackstands and removing the srpings, then manualy moving the axle up and down, and using a jack to move one side up, and you jump on the other side....

you will find your bind... and i garantee it isnt your coils - once coils reach max droop, they fall out and the axle keeps drooping....

Take the shocks off and see if that doesn't change things. I know my shocks limit my wheel travel both up and down.

i think his problem is the coils unseating because of the travel, not that his travel is limited by other things.

JJ's wont let the axle rotate and will cause bind in a radius arm setup... bushings are better in a radius arm long arm setup...

where did you get that he has radius arms

this thread totally coRnfused me

most production LA's are radius arms...

Rusty's, RE, TNT...

infact i cant think of any company that makes LA's that arent radius arms...

i think teraflexs are a non-radius arm setup, i think.. thats where the uppers are mounted on the lowers??

uppers mounted on lowers are radius. full traction keeps a 4 link. who knows we might just hear back from the guy that started it

There are two;

Rock Krawler.............long-arm three link
Full-Traction.............long-arm four link

good call...

now we need some input from 88XJScott

maybe if we keep bickering and bringing this back to the top, he'll see it and respond...

maybe all of you rambling scared him away....

as far as longer springs, but keeping the lift, i doubt youll find any, rustys use te stock 150lb spring rate, RK uses 150lb up to 4" then the spring says the same, but the spring rate jumps to 180lb

RE is a rip off, and im sure theyre the same length

if your spring unseating is bothing you ancor the top and bottom w/ some good plates.....

Sorry, I went away for the weekend. My problem is definitly not in the arms. These are my custom longarms. They are the radius style, but I only have one upper control arm, which eliminates the binding which raidus arms are known for. I was just wondering who had the longest extended coil because I have so much travel. Once I put in a new trackbar, my travel will be rediculous and i want to maximize what I have.

that would be defeating the purpose. you might want to try extending the bumpstop tower or whatever you wanna call it so that the coil want pop out. depends on how much uptravel your running though.

yup, extending the coil tower down might be a good idea - if you have hockey puck bumpstops on the bottom, then take them out and get some taller bumpstops that attach to the coil tower...

might call a vendor that sells for many different brands and ask a stockroom boy to pull out the tape measure and measure the unsprung lengths of the various coils for the same lift ride height...
or buy a ton of coils, measure, and return them :D
