Its all rotational forces......care to rethink that a bit. You seem to forget the inertia of the vehicle that appears in shear front to rear.

regardless, it needs to be secure and it never hurts to over engineer stuff. my x-member is re-enforced, welded, and bolted to the frame. the x-member should be the heaviest duty item in the suspension.
