locker question

a guy i know has a 2002 tacoma trd 5 speed. hes been having problems with his locker. he says his factory locker has too much lash. also it clanks a little when not engaged. he checked differential fluid and lubed everything. what would cause this? any input is greatly appreciated

what kind of locker is it?

if it's factory, it must be the TRD E-locker. If the backlash is off, have it fixed, it's not that hard. If it's an 02 it's probably still under factory warranty, take it to the dealer and check.
