Yesterday I decided to take my son out wheeling and did a solo run up Red Cone. By the time we got to the top we were surrounded by clouds and it was snowing a bit. I was already concerned about lightning, what with being a huge hunk of metal at the highest point for miles in the middle of a stormy looking cloud. I got out to take a few quick pictures and noticed the sign at the top was buzzing/crackling like a power line.
That scared the shite out of me and I got out of there as fast as I could, to heck with the pictures. All I got was a blurry one of the sign.
This isn't a decent you want to hurry down, especially when it's snowy and muddy. After sliding a bit (sometimes starting to go sideways) I almost needed a new pair of shorts by time I got to the bottom.
About 5 minutes after getting down the three hills the lightning and thunder started. None of it sounded close enough to be hitting the top of Red Cone, but I'm still dang glad I wasn't sitting up there.
