lift problem.

cool thanks for the help.

i think some of my problems is that i drove it with the front end not lifted, i'm getting a clunking noise at the front of my tc not so much the rear "i think".

i think with the back so high and front still stock most of the noise is the front shaft not the rear. i got like 5-6" up in the rear and i think it's the front shaft binding now.
i'm not really sure.

Hmmm there seems to be a lack of understanding here, so I will try to clear the fog......RAISING THE FRONT WILL NOT DO JACK SHIT. YOU ARE BINDING AT THE REAR BECAUSE THE DRIVESHAFT IS SIMPLY NOT LONG ENOUGH. DO THE DROP OR BETTER YET A SYE. THERE IS NO WAY AROUND THIS.

well i'm dropping it anyways, but i think it's the front shaft making the noise.

i'm no pro or anything but i think lifting the rear does change the angel of the front driveshaft. but i could be wrong it wouldn't be the first or last time.

thanks for all the help.

Lifting the rear will only change the angle of the t-case in relation to the ground if the front isn't lifted. You will also find the front axle will rotate forward as well BUT this is all in relation to the ground the vehicle is parked on, the t-case and front axle and driveshaft have not changed in anyway in relation to each other no matter how high you lift the back up. Even if you lifted the rear of your XJ 6ft the front driveline angles wont have changed.

Hope that helps explain it.

Cheers
Steve

i just towed my jeep to a friends, so he can put on the tires and aline it.
still need to drop the tc or sye it and put on the track bar.
then i'm going to cut out the rocker panels and make some new rocker panel sliders.

I installed a rustys full pack 3" on my 98 about 3 weeks ago. I had to pull the bottom leaf to get the rear down to 4". My rear pinion was close to the t-case angle after a .75" drop. I used aluminum square stock, and Im going to try 1" stock to drop it alittle more. Right now it has some vibes, but not bad. Between the extra drop and the springs breaking in some, I should be vibe free. The u-joints are close to their max working angle so I will eventually go sye to properly FIX the issue.

My front end has no issues. I will be putting a 1"spacer up there to level it, but dont predict any problems.

in the meantime until you do an SYE.. get a YJ slip yoke... it has deeper clearance and 5/8" longer, and is identical to the $80 part sold by Rubicon Express.... when i lifted my trail rig my rear shaft also bound up.. DO NOT just drive it in hopes it will "wear in" and not rub anymore.. there are tons of YJ yokes laying around in shops and basements...

i did try to drive it, but after a few feet i could tell it wasn't going to just wear in.

i was thinking of the yj yoke but didn't want to get one then have to sye it anyways. i'm going to try to drop the tc and shim the rear a little.
