Lift Kit!!

i had a 1990 xj with a 5 inch rough country on 33x12.50s. that thing rode so soft through the woods and would flex over anything! i would say for me thats the best lift setup u can get if your gonna wheel it. it also depends on what you like to do though.. i like rocks and flexing through creeks so i wanted more ground clearance with the 5 inch and 33s.. normal trail riding or hill climbing i would just go with maybe a 3-4 inch lift on some beefy 31's..Lifts are all about what you prefer and how u like your rides to sit theres no right or wrong lift to do to your jeep
 
So 3.5 lift with 31 would work swel?

I'll throw my recommendation in here: Zone Offroad. I just put a 3" zone lift on my xj. I bought the kit that came with new springs, not their add-a-leaf system. It came with coils, leafs, shocks, and hardware. I like it so far. I also added longer LCAs and an adjustable track bar. I currently am awaiting the deliver of my quick swaybar disconnects and t-case drop.

I'd buy Zone again, they're a sister company of BDS. I'm running 31x10.5 MUDs on TJ rims. It rubbed once at full lock.
 
Wtf I can't find any legit lift brand that has 3in lift. I don't want 3.5 or higher cause then I'll need transfer drop/sye and all that shot. OME,RE don't have 3in lifts, or atleast I can't find it. What's the next best thing? Or can somebody hit me up with a link to OME or RE 3 lift? thanks..

Remember, the 3.5" is not an end all rule for the need for TC drop / SYE; people have gone 4.5" and not needed it and people have gone 2.5" and needed it. Just depends on the Jeep..

But you also had to put in a SYE and extended brake lines and all that good stuff right?

Some say for a 3" lift you don't. However, I found after doing mine that I was going to have to extend my lines to get the maximum flex out of it (I'm about to install my front swaybar disconnects, so the long lines are very important at this point). I was told that I wouldn't need a SYE/custom driveshaft for a 3" lift, but notice vibrations at highway speed. I'm going to install a t-case drop (1") to see if that stops the highway vibe. If it does, I know I'll need a sye, if not, then it's something else :)

Basically it's a 50/50 shot on the sye. You'll need the extended lines if you want the most out of your jeep.
 
I used my stock front brake lines by relocating the mounting point of the hard line / hose junction. A little straightening of the hard line and a tek screw and done.
Everything else runs out of travel before the brake line does.
 
i didnt have to do any brake line work for my 5 inch lift. all i had to do was take my driveshaft to a local clutch&drive shop and they custom extended mine 1-3/4"
 
I have ran the 3 the 4.5 and the 6.5 on several different jeeps and got away with not running an sye on all three however I have also had to put one on another xj with only a 3" so its impossible to say if you need one or not. Rough Country's 3" kit with our new 2.0 series shocks is a great riding kit, I highly recommend getting the new rear springs and lower control arms with whosoever kit you decide to go with. You are doing the right thing by researching first and my best advice it to take what everyone tells you and then form your own decision off of that. I would try to "copy" anyone elses jeep part for part, not everyone has the same needs, wants or even idea of a smooth ride.
