Lift installed, exhaust now hitting leaf

I recently installed the Superlift 3" with spring packs. Ride and handling are good, but now the tailpipe rubs and scrapes against the leaf. So every time i go over a large bump i hear that thump of the exhaust hitting. The exhaust was done at Meineke, and the pipes look a little bigger than OE. Could I move/swap the hanger? Anything I could do myself, short of going to the muffler shop? -Shawn

Few things to try without actually seeing it in person. First, see if you can alter the way the hanger sits to clear your springs. If no, consider putting a rubber or plastic surface (heat tolerant of course) between the rubbing parts. It will still rub, but it will be quiet. Lastly, consider cutting off the last couple of inches of your exhaust pipe, just enough to clear the spring.

mine hits the shackle.. might help if i actually had a rear tailpipe hanger to support it better..... i dont hear it till i get into a steep climb in low range and i just deal with iit... besides i'm more concerned with the front d/shaft hitting the pipe in the front anyways... if you dont want to just shorten the tail pipe, try cutting the pipe off and replacing the end with a section of pipe a 1/2" smaller I.D. i have thought about this myself.. thats a trick hot rodders use in engines that have good cylinder scavenging, step the tail pipe down to slow the exhaust velocity down.. it helps low-end torque... proved it to myself with dyno runs on my chevelle.. worth a try with the 4.0L...

If you dont want to cut the pipe...(like buck said)i took an old coolant hose and wrapped the pipe w/ a little peice i cut and no more rubbing...good temporary fix. Good luck.

After I put a 3" lift on my '87 Cherokee the exhaust pipe was rubbing on acceleration, I gently used a pry bar to move it in the direction away from the spring. Worked on mine!
