Already posted on the Socialist thread......because it fits their agenda.

Re: Liberals starting to understand "shall not be infringed"... so they'll ban lead

The good news is that lead is not the only material that may be used to make bullets. Bismuth (like in no-tox shot) may be used, Barnes has been using a copper alloy for years, and I know of some "highly frangible" polymer pills - typically either PTFE or 6/6 Nylon - that have been used. I think it would be interesting to see some centreless ground UHMW PE bullets and how they perform...

We can't forget the "TMJ" (Total Metal Jacket) rounds that Speer came up with - that were initially designed for LEO use, but are freely available on the open market...

The Left may be more regimented and organised than the Right, but the Right tends to be more creative at their problem-solving...

Sorry Jeeper, haven't checked that Socialist thread in a while. Either way, I think this deserves its own thread lol.
I know there are plenty of other materials out there that work well for ammunition... but it's a lot more expensive then lead. Can't shoot anything if ya can't afford the stuff to shoot it with!

Must snow every day in California--the whole dang state is full of flakes.

The point isn't to ban bullets. They'd be perfectly happy if they just raised the cost of shooting 10-fold. I can buy 50 rounds of copper jacketed lead based ammo for about 10 bucks. I can buy the bullets by the pound literally for the cost of the alloy. The copper Barns sells in expensive. An individually centerless ground bullet wouldn't be cheaper. You see, once they ban lead, then they have to "test" bullets to make sure there's no lead in them. You pay for the testing. They also have to control the sources of lead. You might be casting your bullets at home, and that will be illegal. Ever buy a fishing line weight? Somebody has to pay for the enforcement. That would be you. How much shooting will you do when, instead of 10-20 cents a shot, ammunition is 40 cents? 60? How about a buck? Two?

Well, maybe not this year:
Responding to a grassroots outcry from gun owners, the Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has denied a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and other radical groups that had sought to ban the use of lead in ammunition.

Agreeing with the position of the NRA and the firearms industry, the agency explained in a news release that it “does not have the legal authority to regulate this type of product under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).” Further crushing the hopes of anti-gun and anti-hunting activists, the release added: “nor is the agency seeking such authority.”

'Didn't even wait for the comment period to end. 'Bet someone got a call from the white house or a congressional office, the caller pointing out that there is an election right after the comment period, and the timing for that particular piece of regulation was "NOT NOW, you idiot!"
