LED taillights

Alright!!! Lights are on! And, lookin mighty fine!! But, I have afew questions. First is this, after wiring everything up, as i tried the turnsignal, it only stayed lit up, it didn't flash. So, i pulled out the "flasher" from the fuse box and checked it, and, sure enough, it was bad. But, it worked before hooking it up to LED's. So, should i have something different inthere? Also, the LED's in the brake lights worked after i installed them, but, i just went outside to check them out in the dark, and, no worky on the main taillight. I am gonna check the fuse in the morining, but, do the LED's take more juice than the stocks? Any input would be greatly apprecaited. And, Matt and Matt, Very Nice Job!

All the vehicles we have tested so far have been fine. If that problem continues, PM ok?

THIS is the reason we to prototype testing ;)

Hey, im not naggin on the lights. I am just wonderin if i wired em wrong, cause, i just went out and checked and played around a little more, and, what i've come up with is this. If I have the truck on, the brake lights work. But, if i turn on the headlights, the brake lights don't work. SO, my question is this. Does it sound like i wired the main brake light wrong? All i know is that the colors of the wires on my XJ meant nothing. one had a white wire as the hot one, and another was the brown one......so, i'm just wondering if it sounds to ya'll that i goofed in wiring them up.

I think they look awesome! Sign me up for a pair. I was wondering when someone would come out with them for an XJ. A YJ buddy of mine said they look great too.
I don't think it really matters about how solid they are. If your going to back up into something, or have someone rear end you, I don't think the taillights are going to make a difference in the overall dammage.

92jeeper- On a scale of 1-10, how complex is the wiring.

It's not that the wiring is difficult. Problem is, I'm not very electronicly gifted. The wiring is very straight forward actually. You just clip off the lights and solder them to the new LED. Problem is, i think i solderd the wrong wires for the brakes. The side marker, reverse, and turnsignal all work. I'm just stumped on why the brake light doesn't come on when my headlights are on.

Um, ok. I feel stupid now. It was that i crossed the wrong wires. I just took em apart again, then, we wired them correctly, and everything works now. I'll get pics of them on Monday hopefully. But, these lights are VERY NICE!! Wait till ya'll see. They are sick!

Which one did you use for ground?

Wow... I leave for a little while & all hell breaks loose. First of all thank you to everyone showing interest & filling my PM box to the limit. I want to make it clear that I'm limiting anyone affiliated with Farm Boy to answer questions only. NAXJA is not my own personal sand box to advertise in & we will not do so except in the vendors forum where I'll post, hopefully in the next week or two, that we'll be ready to start shipping. To answer a few questions... The housings are 12ga just like the ones I've been running on my rig for the last 2 years. They've taken there share of beatings & have held up great. Yes the housings are stout & are stronger than the quarter panal they attach to, but this also helps to strengthen the quarter panal as the housings act as a stiffener to that area of the body especially with the large back plate that seals off the openings to the quarter panal. As of right now we won't take any custom orders for cutouts. This may change in the future, but the cutouts are pretty universal the way they are & offer loads of options to do with what you want. I went with the small mod. 15 style light in the bottom & sides because it's a universal light that fits the application well & offers a seperate turn light to get away from having to run a trailer wiring conversion box that so many seem to have trouble with. If you want to run a conversion box than that turn signal cutout can easily be filled with another backup light. We'll sell these housings 3 different ways. 1) bare housings, you supply lights & wiring. 2) Housings with an incandescent light kit (all mounting grommets & wiring included). 3) Same as #2 except with LED's. Keep an eye on the vendors forum or our web site for more info. Thanks

Matt

Matt, I know you said there won't be an option for different cutouts, but what about selling them bare, before the cutouts are made? That would leave the options open to those wanting something different. Just a thought. Also, are these just the boxes? or will they be available with the quarter panel armor as well(I'd order a set today if they can be made with the cladding for a '97+)? Thanks, and lookin good as always!

Ary

The cladding will be a seperate from the light housings. For it to fit right the cladding needs to be slip rolled which is hard to do with the right angle breaks in the tail lights. The 97+ housings are quite aways off & in all honesty I'm not sure they would be worth while to produce them... The amount of guys out there that would want 97+ housings pales in comparison to the 96 & under trail rigs out there. We'll get off the ground with the products I have in the works now & evaluate the 97+ market after that.

I do not want to violate any of NAXJAs rules, especially with main man gone. If you have questions, hold them until FarmerMatt get back. He should and will handle most of this!

Who are you Matt#2? I thought you were Farmer Matt.

Matt,
1st of nice design. I was wondering: How much would a set of your lights run all wired and ready to install? I broke my driverside taillight on Middle Sluice and need a replacement/better design. I was going to go to pick n pull, but thought, "why not try something different which is stronger and more unique?" Please advise on the price with shipping to Sac, etc.
thanks...Troy

I'm not sure as to how the standard lights are going to wire up,but, the LED's don't come wired up. You have to wire up the connectors to your factory wiring. Then, plug the connector into the LED and you're done.

Pricing is not yet finalized, keep an eye in the vendors forum here on NAXJA or my website for more info in the near future. The wiring kits come with all the wire pig tails that connect to the new lights. You'll have to cut & splice the new connectors into the original wiring harness. It's not very complicated. Thanks

O.k. Matt, thanks for the info. You have some nice products here and I'm sure you Matt(s) will do good. Hopefully I can make the Swamp Lake run and see some at your house. What is your address? I don't think you posted it yet for the Friday gathering at your place mid July.

....Id rather pay $10 for a pair of stockers 10 times then buy these and risk body damage...

Dude, that's a lame statement. If you're breaking tailights on the trail and you're worried about "body damage" then you should be waxing your Junk at the mall instead.

I've laid mine over hard on the quarter & tailight housings and have had no significant damage. The only problem I've had is that I had my cb antennea mounted to the passenger side tailight housing & I snagged that little piece of angle iron & bent the body where the tailight mounts. Problem? Not for me, I just banged on the tailight housing till it went back in.

My housings are 3/16" tubing and have taken some good shots.

Well, here's 2 pics now. Sorry for the crappy pic quality, but, that's a $20 digi cam for ya. I'll be getting good clear shots hopefully Wed. But, let me know what ya'll think and if you want to see them from any other angle. I'll get some shots with the lights on a little later.
