LED taillights

When something breaks, it obviously takes a force to break it. And when something breaks, it absorbs some of the impact.

The lens' cracking absorbs some of the impact, and then w/e went thru the lens continues to go in, the plastic continues to absorb the impact.

With this, because they ARE so stout and so strong, the impact will go from A to C, totally skipping B, the light.

So sure, your tail lights will always work, and always be pretty, but if backed into the right thing, you could destroy the mounts for your lights.

Wouldn't the same apply to the "Taillight guards" for the "offroad" vehichles? You know, the ones on the caddy Escalades? They just screw into the stock holes the taillights are in. wouldn't those do the same as a metal box?

Hay Chuck take your Sarcasm over to the PB.:) Speedy has a point that is often overlooked. Force is force and if you hook your TL on a rock (or your dumb buddy trying to pass your stuck junk to give you a pull) a plastic lens can’t send much of that to the body (its to weak) but if you use a :farmer: light it will go right to the light mounts. I think the thing to keep in mind here is that folks don’t tend to smash there lights backing up so much as graze them on rocks; and in that case the side panel is just as involved as the light its self.
There is room for difference of opinion here as well as personal preference. If you are out running the harder trail every weekend that you’re not fixing your junk.:repair: You don’t want to buy half a dozen lights a year just so you don’t stress the mounts. If the mounts give up your just going to weld them back together and keep wheelin’. On the other hand if you are a more casual wheeler like the majority of folks are and you value aesthetics and uni-body integrity as highly as performance you would do well to consider staying with OEM lights so that if they take a hit you can just replace them and still have a clean fender. JMHO :peace:
PS; Where do I get my set? I can’t wait to rip my mounts off. Weooo whoo!

That's exactly it. Most of the time your just grazing the rear taillights. If you do more damage than that. You probably rolled and have a lot more to worry about than a busted tail light mount.

Like you said, buddies do more damage to taillights than the rocks. :D I contend if I had a :farmer: TL, then I would still have a TL and you would have more body damage. ;)

Alright, for all who want them, they are not available to the general public just yet. Here is the link to Farm Boy Designs.

http://www.farmboydesigns.com/

I am not 100 percent sure on pricing yet either though, so, when I find out more, i'll pass it along. They are also going to be selling roof racks, and, knowing the kind of fab work done by the :farmer: and the other guys at farmboy designs, it'll be nice.

I'm guessing the truck's metal will be stronger, overall, than the light boxes - my vote is th eboxes would deform before thr truck's structure would.

And I HAVE had my lights off (chasing this damned electircal glitch popping my dash-light 5 AMP fuse...:bawl: ), so I know what's back there.

If they are truly THAT tough, I'll take a set as I'm always surprised at how much actual force it takes to deform the sheet metal on my truck - I play in trees more than rocks...

...and the plastic from the stock lights will not absorb very much energy before shattering...though you are more likely to get on the brakes harder when you hear them crunch...:)

...now, where's that link...

I'm also a favored prototype tester. I'll have some pictures of mine soon, probably next Wednesday. They are well built and FarmerMatt is going way out of his way so the fit very well. They'll be worth buying when he gets them ready to sell.
Does a version for the newer body style exist??

I don't think the light boxes are gonna bend too much. These suckers are solid!! And, i thought i posted the link. Oh well. Here it is

Cool... any expected ETA's and expected prices?? Cause my drivers taillight is on it's last legs: I glued it 3 times already and I still gotta glue it again after the Con trip (plus each time I bust it I loose more and more pieces!).

Can't give you solid info on either yet. Sorry.

I busted by driver side TL as well this past weekend in the True Big Sluice/Middle Sluice around the narly rock/tree area. I was just going to go to the pnp, but I'm very interested in yours Matt and the roof rock rails. It's nice to see your web site/idea getting off the ground. I like your John Deere/Green Bay Packer paint job too. I'm sure it's modeled after the John Deere and not the Green Bay Packers, I'm just a Packer fan, so I thought I'd bring that up.

those are so badass! I'm curious about one thing though. will you be selling the housings alone so I can put my own lights in? I was thinking of putting round ones in... prices if so?

I do not want to violate any of NAXJAs rules, especially with main man gone. If you have questions, hold them until FarmerMatt get back. He should and will handle most of this!
