so i just got word from my mom that we are moving to Leavenworth this fall... she just got done with medical school and will be doing her residency at a hospital there, my dad is staying in Cleveland to finish up working at the cleveland clinic, and i am being taken to Leavenworth to finish up college and take care of my little sister while my mom is at work.

so for those of you who live in kansas. what is there to do in leavenworth? ive googled the crap out of it, and pretty much cant find anything... im gonna need all the help i can get to get myself situated

You are a little north of the "big city" in Levenworth. I'm about 45 mins south in Olathe. There are a few off-road parks within 7 hours or so. The closest being about 2 1/2 hours or so. As for the KC area not a lot. KC is a small city trying to grow up.

Yeah I don't know about ski hills. In the winter you have snow creek in Weston. That should be kinda close as weston is an 1hr north of KC on the Mo side.

Moutain biking I'm sure there is something. Check on the web I know there is a local moutain biking club in KC.

You could always go to the prison and see if you could tour the cell Mike Vick slept in.

Where are you going to school?

im actually not really sure on where im going to go to school now, i was attending john carrol university in cleveland. any opinions on local colleges?

by the way, thanks for all the help!

If you think there is nothing to do in Leavenworth.... well, I grew up in a small town in central KS, so Leavenworth seems like a big city to me :yap:

I am actually in Manhattan going to school at KSU. There is really good wheeling at Tuttle Creek (my local favorite) and down at KSRocks (near Ft. Scott). Have a friend whose folks built a home in Leavenworth then moved to England (military). Beautiful countryside out that way.

I've never been to Cleveland, but cant imagine it to much more exciting.

You can head down to NW Arkansas for awesome Mountain Biking. My younger sister is at school at PSU and has gone biking in some really cool terrain, If you get really bored in Leavenworth, you could visit the historic prison (visitor or guest)...

Colleges depend on your major and how much you want to spend and how close to levenworth you need to be.

I went Emporia State University and if you think levenworth is small, don't go there ;)

Kansas University is much larger and close to levenworth. But many good schools to go to, an there are many things to do. Just different then what you were used too.

come wheelin w/ me and Blake (KSXJ) and we will see to it that you have a good time

I have yet to be wheelin w/ Blake and not have a good time...it is just a given :D

^haha right on! it will be nice to have friends already established when i move.

as for school in price, i cant really put a price on school, if the loan gets approved then im set. ive actually just changed my major from law to architecture, so i guess well see how this goes. i shadowed our family attorney for a few days, and hated everything except for when it came to trial. BUT i shadowed my buddies dad who is in commercial real estate development for a day and loved it, also got an inside view on how urban planning/ development starts. (demolition:clap:)

How crazy. KU is good Law and KSU is good architecture/landscape architecture/interior architecture-product design. KSU was ranked highest in Landscape Architecture last year and is 2nd or 3rd this year. I am getting my Non-Baccalaureate Masters of Landscape Architecture (no bachelors degree, guinea pig class) in May if everything goes well. Landscape Architecture is where it is at! If you like the urban planning side of things and social aspect of projects come check out K-State.

Shoot me a PM when you get here and want to do some wheeling as well... even though I wheel my TJ, not the MJ ;)

Thanks for the good luck wish. So much work to do, so little time

And a few hot links for you :compwork:
College of Architecture Planning and Design: http://www.capd.ksu.edu
Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning: http://www.capd.ksu.edu/larcp/

i just saw that KSU is about 2 hours from where ill be living  which means i wont be able to go there, since the whole reason i am moving with my mom is to look after my sis haha.

looks like ill probably go to St. Mary's, which is IN leavenworth, either that or find something in kansas city.

I have been thinking about hitting up Tuttle Creek or Kansas Rocks in the next month or so, you up for a wheeling trip?

Cheeseman-OUT!

for sure! it will be my first, im a bit of a rookie at this but im sure my jeep is plenty capable.

you guys know of any good shops around here? i need to get my rear tow hitch installed and two spots on my unibody welded up. i need to get this done asap, ive been putting it off for way too long. or if anybody has a welder and some open space to work on my heep for a little while i would be more than happy to offer compensation in the form of food & beer or $. lemme know!

The best shop around is 4x4Land in Topeka but any shop can put a hitch on, and any body shop could problally do the welding for you. I don't have the stuff to do it or I would give you a hand.

Anytime you want to do lunch let me know I am in Olathe, and home all day w/ my daughter.

awsome, i will be looking into 4x4land, hopefully they wont charge me an arm and a leg for the work but at this point with no garage or tools to work with here, i have no choice.

yesterday i went to cabelas, that store is sweet! and their french fries are even better haha. that was random but i felt like i should share
